RAZBAM update videos

I never joke about Russian Hardware.

this wouldn’t be the first time soviet designers put a big gun in things and had problems, i remember reading somewhere. The cannon in the MI24p had to have a barrel extension to move the muzzle forwards, because of flame and blast damage to the side of the cockpit (and concussion to the co-pilot/gunner)

Last I checked, the MiG-23 version was scheduled to be an MLA (Flogger-G). So not quite as good as the MLD (Flogger-K) but not as bad as the early generations. It should still be a pretty good fighter for those who can adjust to its quirks. ā€œFulcrumā€ had some pretty good segments on what it was like to fly.

The MiG-27 with the GSh-6-30 was dumb; anyone could’ve told them that trying to shoehorn a gun like that into what was a fighter design from the start would be doomed to failure. The NR-30s on the Su-17 was more than adequate and the GSh-30-2 on the Su-25 worked quite well.

Man, I miss my Fitter-K.

Where/when did you have one?

I built one in '08 for ArmA but never finished it. Had to abandon it in '10 as it was rapidly obsolete for ArmA2. I tried to do too much by myself which led to huge feature creep.

Fun fact: also made a low detail MiG-23MLD for AI use. Looks demonstrably worse than the DCS/LOMAC one!

I think the MLA will do.
That’s one of the more modern ones already IIRC. So not with all the quirks the early ones had (like falling apart and so on. )

Something also here

Check the mods forum on the ED forum, theres a guy building a fitter from zero there… perhaps he could use a hand.

Wait… did the -23 MLA have an RWR?
I recall reading that a surprisingly large number of Russian planes actually didn’t have one.
Same goes for chaff/flare dispensers.

Also I think that was one of the last versions that didn’t have the R-73 missile, that’s a bit sad for dogfights.
But at least a R-24 (SARH) and a decent radar should be in.

Not likely from me! I haven’t built a 3D model in years and I used the O2 tool for my work, which is sorely out of date and specific to the ArmA series.

Yes, should have the same version as the MiG-29. The Su-17M4 also had it. Earlier versions would’ve had the same one we have on the MiG-21Bis. Chaff and flares were also carried, just not as many as on the MiG-27.

The R-73 should be possible with the MiG-23 but I don’t imagine it was widely used before the MiG-29 replaced most frontline squadrons.

It does, an SPO-10. So not great. I dont know if some produced frames omitted the RWR, why they would have done so and if razbam will build the model to reflect that. If we’d get the MLD we would get an SPO-15. I think the 73 was only for frames of the MLD series, and I believe some nations even got HMS or even R-77 support (I think that was the 23-98).

Anyone except the guys pushing for the F/A-16…

I think the MiG-23 and the F-14 will pair wonderfully. Tomcat with AIM-9L and Sparrows vs. AI MiG-23MLD is currently my favorite air-air setup in DCS. Its is before the all-aspect off-boresight era and especially in 2on2 fights you have some time to actually do some nice team tactics without instantly getting a missile to the face.

Yeah, yeah…a Strike Eagle…seen that, done that since Jane’s F-15. When do we see the Flogger???

While I will put money down on the strike eagle the very minute they let me, I too am way more excited by the prospect of getting to wrestle a Flogger around the sky.

Presumably when the art’s done; they posted a picture of the MiG-23 landing gear as well:

Cool stuff. I’m more excited about the Sea Harrier though.
