After rewatching (2 times back to back, yeah sue me!) Red Dawn- 1984 I had literally a fever dream.
I imagined a 1980s TV series, production values similar to Red Dawn- so convincing Russian vehicles mock up, bright red fake blood, somewhat campy acting, real locations, old ‘film’ feel to it… you get the gist of it.
This is an exercise in fiction
Like - a three part miniseries… not covering everything of course, for example the critics lambasted it for the lack of focus on the Russian political aspects beside the initial “attack to the refinery” scene which also was much shorter than the already short intro of the book.
Michael Edwards (Air force 1st Lt in Iceland) played by : Michael J. Fox
Colonel Douglas “Duke” Ellington (pilot of the F-19 in Europe) : Powers Boothe (he was the perfect American pilot in Red Dawn)
Daniel X. McCafferty (USS Chicago sub Commander) : Robert Redford
Robert A. Toland III (NSA analyst and naval reservist) : Kevin Costner
Jerry “The Hammer” O’Malley (Antisom Helo Pilot) : Clint Eastwood
Terry Mackall (Sergeant First Class Abrams Tank commander) : Danny Glover
Russian officer or Spetznats commander in Iceland : Arnold Schwarzenegger
General Eugene Robinson (Supreme Allied Commander Europe) : Scott Glenn
I am a bit fuzzy on how old the characters are in the book but if I could inject what I see in my mind on a screen I think it’d look pretty dope.
I can almost hear a soundtrack purposefully created by the great of music from the 80s like Rolling Stones, David Bowie, Lou Reed, Bob Dylan, and so on…
For instance the intrumental track “All Saints” from David Bowie
would be perfect for the scene of air combat/hide and seek over the cold icelandic skies
