Shedding tears here. My heroes were the Mercury 7 astronauts. I read my copy “The Right Stuff” the first time when I was barely out of single digits, had it so long the pages wore out. He was 95.
Godspeed, Col. Glenn. We are smaller today for your passing.
That’s the thing. We should not mourn the passing of men like him, rather we should be grateful that such men lived.
I once counseled an elderly woman who’d lost her husband, she’d even stopped going to church because she blamed God for taking her husband away from her, in her words, “too early”. He was 93. How do you explain to her that he’d lived a good, long, meaningful life and that it was time for him to rest?
We should be happy that people like Col. Glenn lived among us at all. Doesn’t seem right, I know, but we should be mindful that there are great people in our lives this holiday season.
