Undeniably one of the most recognized and admired actresses (and actors too!) of the past century.

Never saw any Harry Potter movies or Downton Abbey episodes so I really only knew her from her roles in “Hook” and “Clash of the Titans”.
I loved her too. But… her UNrecognizability until rather late in life is her best feature in my opinion. Not that her adult carrier was a flop, just middling (from the viewpoint of a non-Brit/non-theater nerd). Then came Harry Potter and Downton Abby, and she launched. As my wife says (and I agree) she became more beautiful as well. She was somewhat plain in the screenshots I’ve seen of her work in the 60s and 70’s but was striking as an old dame. Her wincing at the new electric lights at Downton was indelible.

I heard she was a really nice person off camera, too. Her co-stars seemed to have only nice things to say about her.
