One of those actors who could carry the movie all by themselves.
While I found his performance in the Hunger Games films nothing special, I thought he excelled in Space Cowboys, the last major film I saw him in where he had a fundamental role.
Not going to bother listing all the great stuff before that, although I will say the first time I noticed him was in the bleak 70s Body Snatchers remake. I was quite young but that one really stuck with me.
Two roles I loved him in that I can recall instantly: Hawkeye in MAS*H and Mr. Bennet in Pride and Prejudice. That last one was a minor supporting role where he lent a bit of humor and gravitas. He told a lot with his eyes.
Great actor. Loved some of the characters he played
I haven’t seen all his movies but I can’t think of any role he played that I didn’t like. I think it is because he was impossible to typecast, being such a versatile actor he was equally at home playing the hero, the villian or the ‘comic relief’.
RIP Donald - Woof, woof!
Always enjoyed his perfomances.
RIP.

He was well loved. Damn, farewell old friend.
I first saw him in Backdraft all those many years ago as the creepy firebug. He was so so intense and thrilling to watch even as a kid
