RIP Gene Hackman

Him, his wife and their dog were found dead in their gated community home.

Some early reports indicate no foul play - possibly Carbon Monoxide poisoning.

I loved his roles. An incredible actor.

Rest in peace.

I just read it myself

Lots of good movie memories of Hackman.

RIP.

Agreed. Growing up during his peak, it seemed to me that he was everywhere. And he was everywhere because he could do anything on screen; equally believable as a hero or a horror—sometimes we didn’t know which until the end. 95 is an awesome run.

RIP. He was a good actor.

Also RIP his wife and dog. If it was CO then it was a completely unnecessary death.

A life well lived, I’d say. (S) Mr. Hackman. Thanks for the memories.

Same thing happened to Weird Al’s parents, died together in their sleep. Awful for the relatives, but perhaps better for them than if just one had died leaving the other alone?

Latest word is that the deaths were NOT caused by a gas leak. New info:

He was so great! Happened to have watched ‘The Conversation’ again recently, he was so good in that one.

Love the fact he just basically retired from films, and seems to have been totally fine with it. Spent time making art, writing books

The times obit has "He never formally retired from acting, but he told an interviewer in 2008 that he had given it up because he did not want to “keep pressing” and risk “going out on a real sour note.”

I never realized till today that Hackman played the blind man in Young Frankenstein.
Amazing actor!

I would have preferred that Gene had chosen a film other than Welcome to Mooseport to end his acting career.

From the most recent articles I have read the original gas leak theory has already been discounted. So far there is no other indication as to what caused Gene and his wife Betsy’s passing other than they happened under suspicious circumstances.

This keeps getting darker.

Thank you. In my opinion, they will have a cause by next Friday. Im thinking he died and she killed herself. Either way, what a shame.

and maybe the dog starved?

The last article I read said that there were three dogs. Two were roaming free throughout the house and outside through an open back door and the one that died was locked in cage. So starvation is a possibility but I suspect that it died from lack of water first.

He was uncredited. I forget why, pretty sure Mel mentioned it in the extras for the film, but it just was executed so well and demonstrated his excellent comedic timing that served so well in Superman 1 and 2.
