I saw it @10 last night, before I went to bed. I knew his health was failing, but still…I feel like we got cheated. At least we got to see him one last time in Ep VII, after everyone thought Ep III would be his final surprise appearance.
For a non-actor he had amazing natural instincts on how to emote when neither your face nor voice are used.

His body language and way of moving as Chewie was great.
The new actor (Ep8 and Solo) made sure to copy that as well as he could. Peter himself told him exactly what to move like, and people say he did a great job as a mentor.
So his legacy lives on in Chewie and the way he is portrayed by other actors, that’s a nice thought IMO.
