Everyone dies and that’ a total bummer. CGI Tarken was okay, Vader kicked ass, the world is a could place devoid of sufficient X-Wings, and watching the death star obliterate a few planetary crusts is absolutely the end this year needed.

Nailed it.
The darker tone is absolute fitting and well overdue when it comes to the war.
Also, was that Garm bel Iblis in the Rebel Council scene they kept cutting to between Mon Mothma and Bail Organa?
I enjoyed it a lot. It was nice to have a movie with a start and ending, without setting up for a sequel for the characters.
Considering the rumours of ‘Disneyfication’ to make it less dark, we can only wonder what they had planned? Perhaps Jyn almost made it off planet but they decided to go for the cleaner ‘Hug on beach’ Deep Impact ending?
I could have done without CGI Cushing/Tarkin. I would have been ok with a human actor that looked a bit like him and they intro’d the scene with ‘Hello Grand Moff Tarkin!’ to set it up just fine. I spent his entire scenes staring at the graphics and it took me out of the movie too much.
I allowed myself with enough suspension of disbelief to glide over the CGI faces.
I swear to the gods that I was constantly “OMG! I know that! OHWOW! I recognize that armour! oooh there’s going to be Tarkin there!” but the last moment when Leia says “Hope” I was about to break down and cry. All the air was pushed from my lungs by an emotional punch.
I LOVED it. Can’t wait to get it in DVD to make a marathon!!!
Now- how do I handle it in the “Movie sequence” when I will show Star Wars to my kids?!
My understanding is they had an actor playing Cushing, then they replaced that guy’s head with CGI. It was uncanny valley to be sure, but I didn’t find it as immersion breaking as it had been made out to be in the run up.
I liked the deep impact-esque ending. My older brother was incensed that they only hugged instead of smooched, but then again he was convinced Jynn was going to be Rey’s mom, so his opinions are rather irrelevant.

#X-WINGS
It didn’t contain Katarn/Ors. So its a disappointment
Hell yeah,
also- fooook, how badassly Vietnam was the last troop assault? With that low flying U-WIng providing CAS? OMG OMG
Counter Point:
#X-WINGS
Right? There was definitely a Vietnam vibe going on with the rogue(lol)ishly cocked helmets and U-Wing making a hot troop insertion.
As a buddy of mine put it, “Rebel Door Gunner” = new dream job
THISTHISTHISTHIS!
It was a last minute decision for these two characters not to be wearing ‘Fan Service 24/7!’ t-shirts…
I wonder how they made it out of the city in time? That guy has the death sentence in 12 system’s you know…
OMG! Loved that part tooo!
WHo am I kidding I loved all of it…
Like “ARE YOU JOKING ME!? I’M BLIND!”
Alan Tudyk did a great job as K-2SO. He had the best lines for sure. A nice addition.
“Jyn, I’ll Be There For You. Cassian Said I Had To.”
Yup, the whole movie was great, topped off with some Vader kicking butt…
One of the best robots ever.
Also can I get a hell yeah for Blue Leader? Really all of Blue Squadron.
I think the thing that absolutely sold the space fight for me was how they ended the space battle. The empire is supposed to be the feared galactic force. The rebels can win, but only by carefully selecting targets and applying overwhelming firepower, then skedaddling.
Admiral Winston Space Churchill came into a system with an equivalently to under-matched force, barely won the initial engagement, and then was crushed by Imperial reinforcements (also the Correlian Corvette getting bisected by the Imp I, hnnnnng).
Reminded me of HK47. I was waiting for him to say something about meatbags.
I read an interview where Tudyk listed his biggest concern was K2 becoming the next Jar Jar. I’d say that was pretty unfounded.
I was a bit miffed by how simply and lightly the Star Destroyer was pushed by the Hammerhead…
There might be no gravity in space but mass is pretty much still there…
