Thanks, but the easiest way would be to dilute it and use my airbrush
I’m just experimenting. It’s not like I have to have the hammertone pattern. Tried that. Trying something else now… We’ll see where this ends up.
I will pass on my prayers to the gods of the filament, for a successful print …
Maybe you could throw in a small plastic sacrifice too…?
Here’s the top lid after some sanding.
It’s totally smooth to the touch, but you can still see the print structure… Color looks good though. Think I’ll keep it that way.
Interesting colour… Not quite the fabled “Russian cockpit teal” but different … I still tend to follow the old Henry ford motto… any colour as Long as it’s black …
It isn’t, but in real life it’s more green. The color is actually called ‘Aurora Green’, but looks blue in pictures. But it’s not a perfect match to Russian Cockpit Green. I just think it would be cool if we could have different cockpit related colors for our controllers…
Getting there…
I used flash in this picture and right there at the lower left rounded corner of the print, you can see how green it actually looks to the eye.
I played around with Photoshop on my ipad and this is more in line with what I see with my naked eye. Of course, your screen settings will vary. My phone camera makes it look a lot more blue than green. Why is that?
Different cameras use different software to equalize light, saturation, and hue.
They must make everyone capable of taking ‘good’ pictures or people wouldn’t buy their phones.
It’s 13 hrs and 30 ish minutes since I started the print, at about 08:00 this morning.
Everything seems to have turned out great. Some light stringing, but that’s not a problem. I made some changes to this print and left the protruding part for the rudder trim wheel off. I will print this separately and secure it with screws. Makes the print and print cleanup a lot easier.
It’s dark. It’s evening. It’s time to go to bed…
White balance. Your camera determines a middle grey from the full scene and uses that as a reference for what is white and what isn’t. You can manually set the White Balance(WB) on most phones when you go to a advanced mode or something like that.
Look for an icon like this:
Then use that feature to create a reference. A white A4 sheet is perfect for that and can usually be put into the scene. Note that it’s not a perfect method and there’s a lot to read about all of this but that’s not really important right now I suppose…
Da…rn…!
The aft parts of the print lifted from the print bed.
It’s not even a milimeter, but it bugs me.
I will try to fill it in with my daughters 3D filament pen.
Ok… The Aurora Green filament isn’t any closer to Russian Cockpit green than the paints I have. Since my OCD light disorder makes me want to fill the 3D printing flaws, I still need to paint the box.
Testing out some spraypaints. I could mix them myself, and use my airbrush, but my workshop is a mess, awaiting an upgrade in June, with new furniture. Mixing paints is also a mess, so I want to stick with spray cans for this job.
Here’s a test.
The turquoise paint on the right looks too blue in my camera phone, again.
A mix of these would be great…
Since I’m making a dual engine prop and mixture with flightcontrol trimwheels, it is geared towards warbirds. Maybe I should just forget the russian theme and go with the green color on the left as a WWII cockpit green…?
Thoughts?
Don’t know what the DIY stores are like near you … But this was the closest I could find to the Russian cockpit colour
You may be able to buy it off the shelf … admittedly it would probably be more than you need in a 5 litre can … but they might have the small tester pots …
Yeah, I can have almost any color matched, but I’d still have to dilute it to get it to spray in my airbrush…
I’m leaning towards the green, for a WWII theme. Hey! That rhymes…
The Turqouise color doesn’t look like any known cockpit color… The green does.
Team Green, up your hands!
No, it’s not module specific.
And a lot of green…
You look like a CAA inspector in those photo’s Scoop!
I start thinking @Scoop has been in anything that flies.
Like, I can say “Yeah the second series of X-Wing Fighters were much better assembled than the first rushed batch” and he will post a picture of when he was inspecting them pre-launch…
