Should I get a 49" UW or a 34" UW Monitor?

Hey Guys,

My 27" Monitor is kaput and I am thinking of going UltraWide. now in the past I had a 3 Projectror setup on a 10 foot screen so going big is a good thing for me.

But I am really wondering if a 49" UW would be worth the extra money. I am only going to play maybe 1 or 2 games on it the one being Eve Online. I hear the larger realestate would help in that game and no I dont mind turning my head but I am a little concerned on desk space…

Does anybody know how much space it takes width wise (Left/Right)? the fact that I am only playing a few games on it is not going to sway my decision as I still use VR so there is that but Eve Online has captured my interest and a bigger screen I think would be nice…

I am just not sure it it will be too wide, on my desk I have about 6feet side to side and 4 feet up and down from the desktop… so I do have the space for it.

I seen 2 I have in mind that I can get a deal on Amazon just need to decide if I want to go UW in a 49" screen or nay…

My desk is 1600mm/63 inches wide, and my 42” 16:9 aspect ratio monitor pretty much dominates it (I have the PC on the desktop as well as an arm for a second monitor in addition to the main monitor).

I really like having such a large monitor for productivity and things like that. Playing slower games like Elite on it would be nice too - but I don’t do much of that these days. Edit: I used to use it for games like Ready Or Not as well, and it was OK for that but I prefer using a higher refresh rate monitor for that nowadays (which is on the swing arm).

One hesitation I’d have is that the “ultrawide” monitors sacrifice a lot of vertical space compared to the 16:9 aspect ratio, which tor me makes them a bit worse for productivity stuff.

Also, a 49" is going to have a lot more pixels than a 34", so depending on your video card you might struggle to achieve a frame rate and/or resolution you are happy with on the 49?.. But unless they have made huge changes to Eve Online in the past 6 or 7 years than that should still run fine on a potato.

Well they are the same resolution so same amount of pixels, If I can do VR, 1440P should not be too hard for my GPU…

I am just trying to determine if the bigger screen would be worth it… thnx tho.

EDIT: Was looking at this one:

LG 45" UW Monitor…

I should have made myself clear. A 49" UW monitor (32x9 aspect) is basically two 16x9 27" monitors. If you can run a dual 27" monitors at 1440 with a decent frame rate, then :+1:

the bigger , the better

I checked PPI of 49" uw with 1440p and its really not bad . slightly better than my 32" 16:9 1440p and slightly worse than 32" 16:9 2160p . so the picture should be very good !

Yes I thought the same thing that bigger is better

I was looking at the LG 45" I linked above and was wondering if LG are a good choice for monitors?

I would say LG and Samsung for sure . iirc they manufacture their own screens so the quality is very good imo . had few LG TVs as monitors and no problem . had one Samsung TV as monitor ( now back as TV ) and no problem there either and having now Samsung pc monitor and all good for now :crossed_fingers:

… thinking about it now … this was my lineup :

Samsung TV 40" FHD 60Hz
LG TV 43" 4K 60Hz
LG TV 55" 4K 60Hz
Samsung TV 55" 4K 120Hz
now
Samsung monitor 32" 2K 144Hz

Well for LG that is mostly what pops up from them the 45" I was thinking 49" but they get astronomical real quick. I think I will stick with the LG 45" UW.

Now I seen a Business class that does 120Hz 1ms responce time and I was wondering is there any real difference between a business class then a gaming model beside just name and price…

Also I was thinking of getting a swivel deskmount base for it so I could mive it on the fly and not be tied to the desk persay… is there anything specific I should look for besides many the vesa mount size?

Business monitors generally don’t have things like G-Sync and cheaty on-screen reticles. Other than that? Compared to low- and mid-range gaming monitors they tend to have similar panels in my experience.

120Hz is a very good refresh rate for a “business” monitor!

will the LG gaming monitor have a good panel in it. it seems to be a good deal…
I did just find out my new monitor was not broke it was just a setting I turned on it did not like…

but I really would like to get a new monitor for Eve Online… that 45" seems perfect…

Well not sure what just happened but the price of the monitor just went up dramatically.

EDIT: I think what happened it was a prime only deal and it must have ended… rats… will keep my eye on it tho…

O went with the Asus TUF 34". I think this will be a good monitor should be big without being to big…

Good choice. That aspect ratio really works well with 1440.

yes it seems a perfect fit for my desk and all. it is big but nit overwhelmingly big… I think it is great been enjoying it past couple nights…
