New shiny toys!!
I jumped onto the crowdfunding of Philips latest short throw HD projector, the Screeneo U4.
It’s intended for our guestroom in the basement, but I thought I’d give it a go in the SimBox.
The screen is a cheap portable presentation roll-up screen. It’s a bit wavy, but I just wanted to test the projector.
Having been spoiled by VR, and not having a regular TrackIR anymore, the 2D presentation was of course disappointing. People talk about the narrow field of view in VR, but this felt really like looking through a peephole. I guess that the fact that I can move my view in VR makes up for the lack of view angle.
Also, 1080 resolution, blown up to 50-60 inches, leaves a lot to be desired.
Still, it was nice to enjoy twice the FPS again. And using a projector rekindled my dream of building a full blown simulator cockpit with working gauges and all. As an external view, this projector has all the resolution it needs…
