ā¦about the same time @Troll announces a new SimBox NG!!!??? Coincidence? Jeg tror ikke.
(I think not.) ![]()
Norwegian Authorities have been investigating several options to salvage the planeā¦
Oh I bet they haveā¦and bet one option is to cut off the cockpit and deliver it to a residence in TromsĆø! ![]()
there will be a Halo inbound to move it i would imagine

Jeg tror ikke det eller det tror jeg ikke. ![]()
Looking at options to integrate the Monstertech MPS-1 seat into the SimBox.
The existing seat that I made.
The rats nest beneath itā¦
The MPS-1 just placed ontop of the existing attachment points.
- I need to rebuild the frame to mount the seat lower.
- I must rebuild the aft wall of the SimBox so I can lean the seat back aft.
- I need to figure out a way to stow the seat back so I can pack up the SimBox. The back wonāt fold forwards of 90°
Or, rebuild the whole thing
I think it might be time for the simbox v2.0 bigger and better than before ⦠or the front half of a viggen, depending on what the other half allows ![]()

I think that #3 on that list is the most impactful decision that needs to be made and likely drives the rest ![]()
This will eventually prove to be the only workable solution to problem #3.
Yeah, you guys may very well be correctā¦
3. is also compunded by the fact that it would be fun to build a new one⦠![]()
In for the Viggepit!
I am very interested in this. I am considering rebuilding mine around that same seat. ![]()
Iām curious to hear how you get along with the tall headrest?
I have a car bucket seat, with a fixed, rather tall headrest, and I find it interferes quite a bit with the VR headset, when turning my head. I have bought a pulley system, trying to mitigate it, but havenāt gotten around to set it up just yet.
Good pointā¦
I havenāt used it in VR yet, so I donāt know. The seat back is quite narrow though, so I imagine it will be fine. Will let you know.
I am currently using a VW Jetta seat. There was a way to take the head-rest off ⦠so I did that ![]()
Rebuilding the seat frame in the SimBox to acommodate the MonsterTech seat.
Iām so glad I decided to build the SimBox from extruded aluminium. Itās much easier to make changes than if I made it out of wood or steelā¦
The SimBox canāt be closed with the seat in it, so I will make a simple quick fit construction, so I can pull the seat out without tools.
The rear wall of the box will pivot, to allow the seat to recline.
I need to mount my four bass shakers onto the new seatā¦
The bottom is flat and will have two shakers. I will mount the other two on the seatback.
The bass shakers are designed to be mounted in holes, so I designed frames for 3D printing, making two flat ones and two that will fit the convex shape of the backside of the seat.
I wonder if I should mount them at the lumbar or breast height?
Iām also a little apprehensive about using screws to fasten the shakers, but I guess thereās no way around that.
This is very important in order to get the full feeling of approach turn stall buffet in the Viggen. ![]()
Donāt forget the compressor stall thumps!
New shiny toys!!
I jumped onto the crowdfunding of Philips latest short throw HD projector, the Screeneo U4.
Itās intended for our guestroom in the basement, but I thought Iād give it a go in the SimBox.
The screen is a cheap portable presentation roll-up screen. Itās a bit wavy, but I just wanted to test the projector.
Having been spoiled by VR, and not having a regular TrackIR anymore, the 2D presentation was of course disappointing. People talk about the narrow field of view in VR, but this felt really like looking through a peephole. I guess that the fact that I can move my view in VR makes up for the lack of view angle.
Also, 1080 resolution, blown up to 50-60 inches, leaves a lot to be desired.
Still, it was nice to enjoy twice the FPS again. And using a projector rekindled my dream of building a full blown simulator cockpit with working gauges and all. As an external view, this projector has all the resolution it needsā¦
I finally managed to hook up my bass shakers to the MonsterTech seat.
I put two under the seat and two in the back.
As with my previous experiences, I feel the back shakers a lot more than the seat shakers.
Is it because the seat cushion is thicker? Or is it the fact that the element is hanging upside down? I may move the seat shakers to the lower backā¦
Anyway, itās good to get some feedback again! Iāve missed it!
As mentioned earlier, I made the bass shaker rings in my 3D printer and I also needed a box to cover the connectors between the shaker cables and the cable to the Amp.
I just love using my 3D printer for stuff like this!
