SimBox NG

More beams arrived today! Shorter ones.

The great thing about building with these beams is the versatility. I can move stuff about before finally deciding on where to put it.

A small commercial for Kyprianos Pantelides, where I get my alu beams.
They send a pen with every shipment, it seems.
I’m expecting a third package from them. I’m hoping for a third pen!
I wish they were aluminium too…

I’m considering covering the outer shell in aluminium sheets, and pop rivet them to the 3030 frame, for that riveted aircraft skin look…
But the tracks of the beams are 8mm wide, and that would take a serious rivet, to hold it.
So I found out about peel type rivets. They peel into four curls, as they are tightened, instead of expanding, like normal pop rivets.

Did a test. Looks good!

Got me some wheels…

After working with a little bit of that aluminum profile that the Monster Tech gear is made from, I’ve become a fan. Easy to work with, sturdy, and extremely versatile.

This is looks very promising, Troll, enjoy watching your progress on these projects. Inspiring

Following along on this build man, really interesting concept. Can’t wait to see how it all turns out :+1:

Got my last package from my aluminium pusher.
With it came the third pen! Yay!

Had to get a box to keep all those screws and fittings sorted. Still more to come, from other suppliers.

I visited the local hardware shop today, to get some material that I need for the new and improved seat interface.
I also browsed their supply of tread pattern aluminium. I’m thinking of putting in a sheet of alu floor.
4mm should be enough…

Do we like the 1 bar tread pattern better…?

Yes. Yes we do.

Now, nobody give him any silly ideas about etching / engraving ā€StrĆ„lande Nyheterā€ logos on the plating, that would just be silly.

Would I do something stupid, like that, @Bearhedge…?

As it happens, I was just browsing Youtube and…

Since my mobo has an Aura LED controller and I can make it, the RAM and the GFX card sparkle in any color, I thought…

Aren’t they cute? Brushed anodized black aluminium. Got me two of ā€˜em…

How’s your case cooling? Even with low-power LED’s, the drivers can run hot, especially if you’re looking at RGB or RGB+W. I’m trying to find more info on the site, but I haven’t seen any specifics there yet.

These will be mounted on the outside of the case. Rebuilding the case in 2020 extrusion beams, to fit the rest of the SimBox.

Oooh, that’s gonna look really, really cool. If you have a chance I’d love to see your sketch for that, as I’m thinking of redoing my case as well.

Actually, I’m cheating a bit.
Going to get a used ATX case from a friend, and use the frame. Will chop it up a bit, and build a 2020 frame around it. Makes things a bit easier…I hope!

The only parts I needed from the PC case…
This will make it easier to line everything up.

I also have some iridiscent paint that I’m dying to try.

My wife also told me to keep the pit simple, small, and have it be removeable from the guest room…

I listened for the past year or so, now I’m busy 3D modeling for a full pit (see below) :man_shrugging:t3::joy: You’re definitely doing it the smart way, and seeing your works in the past it’s pretty much a lock to come out looking badass.
