More beams arrived today! Shorter ones.
The great thing about building with these beams is the versatility. I can move stuff about before finally deciding on where to put it.
Iām considering covering the outer shell in aluminium sheets, and pop rivet them to the 3030 frame, for that riveted aircraft skin lookā¦
But the tracks of the beams are 8mm wide, and that would take a serious rivet, to hold it.
So I found out about peel type rivets. They peel into four curls, as they are tightened, instead of expanding, like normal pop rivets.
Did a test. Looks good! ![]()
After working with a little bit of that aluminum profile that the Monster Tech gear is made from, Iāve become a fan. Easy to work with, sturdy, and extremely versatile.

This is looks very promising, Troll, enjoy watching your progress on these projects. Inspiring
Following along on this build man, really interesting concept. Canāt wait to see how it all turns out ![]()
Got my last package from my aluminium pusher.
With it came the third pen! Yay!
Had to get a box to keep all those screws and fittings sorted. Still more to come, from other suppliers.
I visited the local hardware shop today, to get some material that I need for the new and improved seat interface.
I also browsed their supply of tread pattern aluminium. Iām thinking of putting in a sheet of alu floor.
4mm should be enoughā¦

Do we like the 1 bar tread pattern better ![]()

Yes. Yes we do.
Now, nobody give him any silly ideas about etching / engraving āStrĆ„lande Nyheterā logos on the plating, that would just be silly.
Would I do something stupid, like that, @Bearhedge
As it happens, I was just browsing Youtube andā¦

Howās your case cooling? Even with low-power LEDās, the drivers can run hot, especially if youāre looking at RGB or RGB+W. Iām trying to find more info on the site, but I havenāt seen any specifics there yet.
These will be mounted on the outside of the case. Rebuilding the case in 2020 extrusion beams, to fit the rest of the SimBox.
Oooh, thatās gonna look really, really cool. If you have a chance Iād love to see your sketch for that, as Iām thinking of redoing my case as well.
Actually, Iām cheating a bit.
Going to get a used ATX case from a friend, and use the frame. Will chop it up a bit, and build a 2020 frame around it. Makes things a bit easierā¦I hope! ![]()
My wife also told me to keep the pit simple, small, and have it be removeable from the guest roomā¦
I listened for the past year or so, now Iām busy 3D modeling for a full pit (see below) ![]()
Youāre definitely doing it the smart way, and seeing your works in the past itās pretty much a lock to come out looking badass.
