Welcome to Mudspike!
Need to look into this game at some point. So far I got very little experience on space RTS.

Thanks ya’ll, re nick – nope, just something I came up in a silly whim
Best race to start with? TEC Enclave probably, as it’s most “normal” of the factions, but don’t think they are boring. I really love few Kol battleships accompanied with one Akkan battlecruiser, escorted by several Garda frigates to deal with fighters/incoming missiles, and 16-20 Javelin LRM fregates & couple heavy cruisers. Corvettes are great too in numbers against heavy, not that agile ships without point defense systems.
Sins 2 kind of reminds me of many good boardgames, where you really need to focus on engine-building first, which here is economy; you need resources like gold, metal and crystal to do stuff (like research and build things), and with TEC enclave one can focus on building decent defensive fleet and gain some foothold in the galaxy while not needing to be too aggressive on expansion (me thinks). Don’t start building fleet first, even though you need small one to start modest expansion. Build your economy, get to civil and military researh level 2. And do not even think you need to research all! It’s quite different from some other games in a sense that depending on your play style and situation at hand, you need to be picky about research path you take, because researching is expensive and slow. Which also makes game interesting for me, because different games can play quite differently. Once I didn’t built that much capital ships at all, but had lots of carriers with vast amount of fighters, and a cap or two mainly to draw fire. In another I had as little smaller ships as possible and went to titan as fast as I could. And oh man, those titans are sooo schweeeeeet
In addition to tutorials – which are good but something you’ll forget two thirds of when starting to play – really recommend checking “sins 2 beginner tips”, esp. by ColonelDamneders as well as beginner tips by Daevohk. Both cover lots of important details great for newcomers, even veteran SoaSErs as this version did change many things, even though ships and factions still feel the same.
Up for grabs with a discount now. I’m very tempted.
I’m very tempted as well. The reviews look so so good
It has changed a lot of things from the old Sins games, but nothing I would describe as poor changes.
I’m enjoying it so far.
I haven’t played Sins 1 in more than a decade now, and can’t recall it well enough to compare.
Sins 2 has been good (and I’m not an RTS fan). Played a few single player matches, and a few multiplayer. The pace feels a bit more relaxed, which I like. So far I’m sticking with TEC while I learn and (hopefully) improve.
And apparently the single player campaign will be a separate paid DLC. Not thrilled by that, but I did pay less for the base game than what many games often cost these days.
On the plus side, in the 15 years or so of Sins’ existence, this will be the FIRST SP campaign it’s ever had. Up until now it’s just been skirmishes either with AI, humans, or a mix.
I caved in, but am loving the new one a ton already.
There’s a lot of things are new. Celestial objects are now in constant motion resulting in continuously shifting phase lanes being available (can be turned off). The planets themselves are now much more important as you can mine them and build things on them like research, cultural or military buildings. Asteroid mining now only becomes available later in the early game. The PSIDAR is now originating from your research buildings and not omniously present. I love how many of the capital ships have PD/CIWS-like weapons and attempt to shoot down incoming missiles and nearby strike craft now.
I’m just completely overwhelmed by the new tech trees, which is a good thing
Arrrrrrrgh it sounds amazing
My Sova-class carrier helping me conquer this planet from a local faction
Its fighters take out a target in this gravity well
after a long time researching, I can finally mine asteroids for their resources
Bombardment by my capital ships and orbital siege frigates as the rest of the fleet deal with Advent defenses.
Fighters and bombers dealing with distant economic structures as the fleet battles close to the planet
An advent capital ship sneaks through and attacks my starbase just moments after I finished building it.
The Hand of Illus ship manages to break my shields but reinforcements are on the way to help prevent the destruction of my starbase
I built a repair platform to help fix the steaming and fuming starbase.
This image shows the travel vectors for the planets in this system. With time, my empire will be pulled apart. Defenses and economy should be planned for this. It is not as static as sins 1 where you really had border worlds and core worlds which barely needed anything.
I’m having a ton of fun with this one
PD/CIWS on my capital ships shooting down part of the incoming missiles
Tiny drones perform repairs in combat.
The construction of a ship that will bring peace to the solar system is well underway.
I also had to resort to interplanetary nuking.
almost there…
The eradication tour has begun
an incredibly fun 5 hours
I have come to grips with most of the new systems. Economic penalties for fleet sizes and capital planet distance seem gone so it is easier to sustain large fleets. Building things on capital ships and planets can make a lot of difference, a lot more depth here compared to sins 1.
Yes, instead of just having the XP to level up the 4 abilities the new perks or traits or whatever you can add to the ships (and planets and starbases) adds a new level.
More shields? More hull? Weapons? Added civil/military research or culture? Etc, etc
