SpaceX

Did they say that? I hope they meant to say on the moon. Man flew into space with a lot less…

The nearby town was covered in a layer of dust. The mayor immediately informed residents that it was totally safe—no need to worry. THAT is why Elon loves Texas!

an interesting take on part of hte flight from Scott Manley

That is intresting, also if true might pose some issues going forward.

Seems like there is to much time between activation and termination.

They need the sound suppression even if the surface could take it.
NASA and the USAF among others spent decades and billions figuring this out. It wasn’t just a jobs project for congressional districts to build those trenches.

All engines looked like they were burning clean, this time, both on the booster and starship. And separation seemed to work well to.
Good progress from the first attempt I’d say, can’t wait for the next one!

Well that was exciting!

My guess on the two R.U.D events:

  • Awesome that there were two and not 1 :slight_smile: ;
  • First on the booster return is that the hot staging, then flip was more energetic that anticipated and the booster flipped too far/lost control during the boost back - triggering the automated Flight Termination System;
  • second stage cut off was not clean (ie: one engine shut down faster/slower than the others) putting it off course - triggering the automated Flight Termination System;

But that was a nice success! Next one is going to be the one!

Why hot staging? Seems rough on the equipment, why do it?

If i had to guess, they dont want to lose momentum… i could be wrong but its a guess.

I dont know how much momentuem you gain or lose during separation

Sat there hooting and hollering, then was late for my appointment. Still got the job. Big candle went up fine.

Story of my life. And I need my beauty sleep too much to be getting up in the middle of the night just because something interesting is happening in the US.

That was AWESOME.
