SpaceX

I can’t believe what I just saw. No way!

OMG. It made it to the surface. I mean … it wasn’t in great shape but it made it and did a burn at the end.

Holy crap! Scott Manley will have a field day with this!

That flap literally burned through and it seems that the ship still did a soft water landing.

Yeah. I thought that was an indicator that it was doomed. The burn through on that flap looked like to me like it must have damaged everything useful inside it. But No! When it started actuating for the final stage of the re-entry was amazing!

Same here. I was sure that it would either not work at all, or work too badly to do the maneuver, and it would bellyflop into the water or spin out of control.

It did neither.

I mean: It obviously cannot stay that way. They have to reengineer the flap system to include some sort of thermal shielding, because this is quite obviously not reusable. But holy hell it can take some punishment!

Congrats to SpaceX for this historical achievement.

Awesome flight today. Wish I could have witnessed it live. The little fin that could.

Definite Apollo 13 vibes there, the stakes not being nearly as high, granted.

Thing is about to go up, any of y’all watching?

What is with the AI musk voice?!

Edit: am I even watching the right stream?!

Ended up watching the Spaceflight Now stream because they weren’t shilling crypto at me… the catch was impressive…

Whoa nelly, that booster landing! That’s a neat trick they pulled!

Was that a maple leaf coming out of the starship wing attach points? Or was that the weirdest shaped piece of ice ever?!

How awesome is it that we get to see that happen live. Amazing.

Ah it looked like it almost made the splashdown OK…

That front wing didn’t look good again.

But the catch was cool and the orbiter at least made it to the landing site. And it is super cool to be able to watch in real time!

I am quite certain that orbiter would have aced a landing. It just blew up when the hot bits hit the cold water.

Gah, missed it live.

But I just watched the important parts. Booster looked great, ship needs some work.
