I think the lootbox backlash cost them Starwars. Disney is all about being wholesome for the kids and hooking them on gambling does not fit that picture.
They’re also very, very protective of their reputation and will drop anything that could potentially damage it.
Except maybe Johnny Depp.
I like the movie better than that.
I like the “Rey’s parents are just random guys” story SO much better. It has more dramatic depth.
The Snoke = Plagueis thing… yeah that would have been OK I guess.
After 2 months have passed I can say I’ve finally put my finger on what it is about this movie that I don’t care for; it’s just a really expensive fan fiction film. The picking and choosing of bits from the EU/Legends makes it feel even more so like fan fiction. It looks right, mostly, but doesn’t quite have that same feel.
Sadly, the biggest turn off for me isn’t the movie as much as it’s been Rian Johnson and now J.J. Abrams just straight up attacking fans cause they don’t like their movies. Not sure how exactly I’m threatened by women cause I think the story is weak…
That part has really, really pissed me off, and I’m questioning if I’ll support future movies. At this point, quite honestly, the only reason I’d see Solo is because of Donald Glover as Lando.
It sounds really weird to be saying this, but it just seems so unbelievably unprofessional of both of them. We’ll see what happens when Episode IX does roll around, but I’m pretty much in the same spot and leaning towards not watching any more of the “main story” movies.
Solo should be interesting, but speaking of professionalism, if it doesn’t go over well, I’ll be willing to bet Ron Howard won’t blame fans or even attack them.
That’s what happens when people can finally interact directly with the makers of films. You risk annoying the hell out of them so they say knee jerk reaction crap.
The real question is: why do you care what they say? It has zero bearing on the quality of the film.
I don’t care what music the cook at the local BBQ restaurant listens to. I don’t care what TV shows the dentist dislikes. I don’t care what kind of clothes the designer of my smartphone likes to wear. And I don’t care about the political opinions of any of them, anywhere.
Neither should you.
