Add taxes and we have real life, which is what I game to get some time away from ![]()
Yeah sure but I haven’t seen a single iGPU gamer here on Mudspike and so far, our pcs all seem to be solidly on one end of the spectrum…
Btw I got a gaming laptop for my new job, in advance of the vacation between the jobs so I will be playing Starfield on it away from home this weekend.
Specs are a Zen 3 Ryzen 7 CPU (the model number is confusing but essentially a laptop version of 5800), Radeon RX 7600S (roughly RTX 3060 performance)
and 16GB RAM with a 1080p screen.
I hear ya. The only MMORPG that I really put a ton of time into was Star Wars Galaxies… Long time ago, as in 2003 to 2005 (before it was gutted and redone like World of Warcraft). It was open world, sandbox with a persistent economy. There were player created cities that had property taxes and even elections! If you didn’t pay your taxes, you’d get fined and eventually evicted.
Anyways I’ve played a handful of MMOs since, but none like SWG. The popular WoW style never appealed to me. I’ve always enjoyed the open world, sandbox GTA free reign.
So with a massive amount of real estate in Starfield, it almost seems like such a waste of space no pun intended. I guess i found interacting with humans more immersive than predictive NPCs.
I suppose i could say the same about flight sims. After 4-5 days on the road, hopping into MSFS, Xplane, DCS, etc reminds me of work.
"what i have to start this thing from cold?! Am I on the clock??? ![]()

If you want a MMO where the economy is integral to to the ‘game’ then there is only one:
Eve Online. I haven’t played for years but spent countless hours in nullsec mining moon goo with one eye on the D Scanner. Bit of a steep learning curve:
Star Wars Galaxies… Long time ago, as in 2003 to 2005 (before it was gutted and redone like World of Warcraft)
Hands down the best MMORPG I ever played. Hated the gutting and redoing of it.
Also spent countless hours in EVE after SWG died off, Was fun for a bit but it got old real quick
Finally, another SWG’r! (Pre NGE) I may be biased, but it really was a great MMO. Not just because it was Star Wars, but the mechanics and living/breathing world incorporating so many complex (player based) mechanics dependent (and independent) on each other. When SOE simplified it, that was the end.
I gave EVE a go as well, but lost interest after a bit. ![]()
Thirded. I only played SWGs a few months before it changed…
Brilliant stuff. I even had the expansion Jump to Lightspeed.
Fourthdeded. Original SWG was epic.
Also spent many hours in LOTRO. Stopped shortly after Mirkwood expansion.
I lived in start trek online for a good part of a decade

we were spoiled by BeachAV8R , the cold-n-dark challenges are over-rated ![]()
take it this way. many pilots are OK to fly plane once crew chief says its all ready to go. they just skip the pre-flight.
and thats common practice in flight sims, to skip pre-flight.
I think that many crew chiefs IRL can handle not only pre-flight, but similarly start-up.
so why not to leave it to them in virtual world and just hop into hot machine?
Only MMO I’ve ever played is Fallout 76 and I’m not sure how much like others it is.
However, seeing things like “portable desktop fan” in Starfield along with some other things that remind me of Fallout brings a few chuckles. I just wish we had VATS here!
Played a couple hours yesterday and it’s both excellent and thoroughly meh. The sound and graphic design are superb. Loved some of the gameplay loops from what I saw. There’s a lot to explore.
What I didn’t love is the writing. It’s programmer art. Done as a side project by someone who has a different main job. If that intro is the work of a pro, that person should truly seek different employment. And the manager who ok’d that draft.
Anyway, this looks to be taking me away from the PC for weeks if not months. So long DCS! Hasta la próxima!
I love the look. I don’t love much else.
*Me, a miner given a billion-credit ship
*A robot that talks like it’s from a 1950’s scifi sitcom.
*Said robot is overly concerned about my satisfaction with my accommodations and I have to hear about it every time I walk passed.
*A city less modern than Singapore and also lacking the urban planning.
*The same stale game mechanics of guns and throwables.
*Dumb dialog.
*Some good acting, some terrible.
*I can’t fly. I thought this wouldn’t be a problem but it is for me.
Story picks up after the first 10 hours. And IMHO its good, 20.5 hours and I made it to the endish(when you get there you will understand) of the main story. I will say no more but its a hell of a ride. Also I HATE BUGS!
I just finished the “main” story… and now I know what you mean… I think. ![]()
And I’ve barely scratched the surface on the side quests… and exploring the universe. ![]()
Played 7 mins of it today before the phone went and i was back in my van
Tomorrow is the day. Beer in the fridge, crisps in the cupboard, kids are being locked outside and the wife and i are going into space
I’m absolutely hooked. HOOKED.
Nice! (What am I doing wrong? Maybe I am paying too much attention to the story instead of gameplay.)
Just walk and explore. My wife was getting a bit carried away with the blue waypoints. Sod that, just walk away and start scanning and seeing whats around.
Abandoned military bases, epic firefight with pirates and a diseased monster, rare guns,
I am loving the vibe. I kind of understand that its not for everyone. But i wanted skyrim in space. No more, no less.
Weve been playing for a few hours and i can say that i am not disappointed. I wasn’t expecting much though.
