The X-Mas holiday is a time for staying in with the family. Especially in this crappy weather we’ve got… And when you got a cool building kit for x-mas, you may disregard the family for a few hours. I have seen them before, after all.
As you may have seen in the Merry Christmas thread, I was gifted the brand new Cobi AJS 37 Viggen kit! Our dear friend, @Victork2, tamer of mechanical monsters, sent me this kit. I like to think that his beautiful wife, Els, put him up to it, though…
So, let’s start with Box and content, and the build report will follow as it progresses…
I left the landing gear off (retracted) and no weapons and just the X-Tank. I also got rid of the pilot as it is way too big for this scale.
Reasons for this is that Cobi designed the canard flap fixed and this would’ve been down if the gear was down. The supplied weapons was the Mjölner Bomb capsule, that never became operational. Besides, clean with just the x-tank is how I remember her, on most training sorties. We only hung ordnance on maybe 1 of every 20 flights or so.
This is a brick built toy and concessions has been made in the design. One can’t expect it to be 100% true to the original. I think that’s part of the charm and there’s no doubt this is a Viggen. I think Cobi should be commended for the efforts! It will be displayed together with my Cobi JAS 39E Gripen. Comparing the two, the difference in size is apparent. No wonder the early Gripens got nicknames like The Toy or the Plastic Jet…
I am delighted to be able to cast a glance at this wonderful jet, on the shelf. I am also so happy that I have friends out there, who when they see a Viggen, they think of me..!
Thanks for this awesome x-mas present, Ace! (Els )
