Less fun answer. These ‘active factors’ in dynamic ads use your ad settings from Google. Your search history is used to build your profile. If you have a Google account you can view what it thinks you like and want to see an advert about. @Rhinosaurus has been googling military airplanes, so a site like Livestly will cover all the ad categories and fish him the one he might click on.

The one that always makes people jump a bit is the location history, of which the ad profile can use (again, if you’re signed in then it’ll show you yours):

Yeah, sorry, I meant just generally for all. Did you follow the ad link from it, as I tried to find a bigger version of that thumbnail, as it looks like they photoshopped something funny and wanted to see it up close for the laughs? 
It could be on page 41 of 86 though of the slideshow ‘Crazy Military Planes YOU WON’T BELIEVE’ or something.
