Lt. Cmdr. Conter, then a quartermaster on the Arizona, was the last survivor of the sinking of the Arizona, during the attack on Pearl Harbor.
He went on to become a USN Pilot and served in the Pacific and in Korea and retired as a Lt. Cmdr.
