Yes.
It is way more sophisticated than I expected.
RazBam that would be a +.
I thought Razbam were doing the MLU variant. Not sure as to the differences though
@schurem will know
Not sure if this one was posted here or not…but this is a really cool glimpse inside an Erkanoplan (remember those from the sim Typhoon??)…
Very cool post Beach! I do remember blowing these up in Typhoon - a very disappointing sequel to EF2000, but a good game.
So what you’re saying @piper is this is your handywork we’re seeing in the video. Well done.
Afaik razbam are doing the MLA variant, which to all intents and purposes is the same as the one in that vid. It might lack the dogtoothed wings, and lose a little agility. But be assured, the radar will suck, it will be heavy and have the wing loading of a trash-truck but it will be slick as the runs and accelerate like a startled cat.
Nevermind the rest of that video, but in that short snippet of the 29 landing on the deck, wth is going on with that main landing gear? It actually looks like the gear starts to enter heavy oscillation around the main strut axes, which starts bending the main struts inwards (towards the center of the airframe) and outwards repeatedly.
I thought exactly the same … and it didnt look to hard a landing.
Not Russian (obviously)…but…well… Anyway, is that not the cleanest ship you’ve ever seen? Good grief they sanded that thing down, primed it, and painted it to perfection. They seemed to have solved the greasy smoke exhaust plume problem too…
Photoshop. Or whatever the video equivalent of that happens to be.
I wonder if they re-engineering it with some kind of gas generator type engines… @Navynuke99 might have some insights on whether that is feasible…
My understanding is she was already too far along in the construction process to be able to modify the propulsion plants, so her main machinery is still boiler steam driven.
If you have your fuel/ air ratio right, and depending on the type of fuel you’re using, it’s pretty easy to get exhaust with no smoke, at least for short periods of time. Though that would also depend on what bell you’re answering as well- I would imagine you’d see a lot of smoke and soot for changes in load. Also the fact that I’m guessing the PLAN fleet has more money set aside for maintenance, and I don’t know if they have the same structure as the Russian fleet with regards to conscripts.
The ratio of bunker fuel to vodka might be different… ![]()
This is a new ship, are you thinking it’s the Russian one or was this one smoky too?
If they build 6,675 more of them (which doesn’t seem impossible) then they don’t even need to put any fuel in, as they can line them up and just drive all the way to Taiwan.
Yeah…I didn’t think that the new one was necessarily a “green sheet” ship…but might just have borrowed the shape and some of the features of old Russian Kuznetsov. Maybe they put some new engine types in it right off the factory…
From some site or another:
The Shandong is limited to six days at sea before refueling, which is similar to the Liaoning.
Conventional steam turbines with diesel generators
But maybe the Kuz was just old and tired. Maybe the dude on the bridge didn’t pull the mixture knob out the right amount…
Think they pull it out til it runs a bit rough then go in 50F?
In looking around for some info…I did come across this that slipped through the news two weeks ago. I don’t think it was unexpected of course…
“At the time of the fire, Bonhomme Richard was nearing the end of a two-year, $250 million upgrade to accommodate F-35B operations. It is the largest U.S. naval warship lost since World War II.”
Ouch.
They should just set their Chimney Smoke Density to 0 and get more frames… ![]()
ASW!
