Top Gun:Maverick Premiere

Top Gun was inspired by the article, but I think it’s safe to say that nobody would remember that article today if Top Gun hadn’t been such a blockbuster…

Family waited to see the numbers before suing, Cash Grab,

The Movie was announced and Copyrighted in 2010 8 years before they issued the retraction notice, filmed in 2017 and 2019 and completed before the Copyright reverted back to the family in Jan 2020,

The Only Reason it took 2 years to release is because of Covid and theatres being closed.

They have no ground to stand on here.

No to mention despite the names and a few returning characters, which aren’t part of the article at all. the Movie has Zilch to do with the USNFWS, as written by the Author, no Tomcats, no Trophy, no Points. None of the scenes in the movie portray the photography supporting the article (which was taken by a USN PAO Photographer, not the author of the article, so either way, they are property of the Navy). the Plot, is not centered around a school, it’s centered around the training for the mission.

Character names, are not part of the article, “Top Gun” the name is not something the Author can copyright, as it was the unofficial designation for the School/Program.

So what exactly are they suing for?, the original Article and the Copyright Agreement never Mentioned sequels.

Shouldn’t they be suing 20th Century Fox over Hot Shots! ?

Paramount will likely Settle with Family out of court, they’d be dumb to turn down even a 3% Settlement, which is over 30 Million assuming the numbers stay on track to hit 1 Billion Dollars, and that’s not counting Rentals, Streaming, DVD/Bluray, Syndication of Top Gun on TV networks, etc etc etc.

MONEY!

Where lawyers are involved, there doesn’t really need to be any other reason. The lawyers know, win or lose, they win. The court knows that the case will be high-profile and interesting.

IMAX was supposed to transition to Jurassic World Dominion, heard AMC put Top Gun back in the IMAX Theatres due to lackluster ticket sales, and July 4th is around the corner, nothing says 'Murica like Jet Noise and Kenny Loggins!

Edit: Oh, oh, your post reminds me (Jesus, Joseph, and Mary, another chipwich tangent) of the time when my friend and I were driving from Atlanta to Auburn Alabama for a college football game. We came up on on this car that had tiger tails hanging out of the rear hatch, four Auburn gutter flags flying furiously, and best of all, the driver’s face and head were painted half blue and half orange, the Auburn University school colors. On his head was an orange plastic eagle, its beak and tail feathers arranged as if it had be shot from a canon. Why Auburn has two mascots is, to quote Tom Cruise, also one of life’s mysteries.

Anyway, my friend Andy and I looked at the guy, laughing out loud at the ridiculous vision before us as we passed. Suddenly Andy cried out, “Oh my god, that’s my brother!”, and then began to sink behind the steering wheel. It would be less humorous if the guy was in his early 20s, but no, early 40s.
