Track IR or VR Headset

Yeah, precise naked hand tracking, Varjo Aero display clarity and Pimax FoV… They will get there one day!

I can only say that i have not flown TiR since getting a Rift several years ago . I’m now on my 3rd headset (G2) , and my TiR with pro-clip has been on a shelf for 4+ years .

Being IN that world , and IN that cockpit , and the greater situational awareness offered by 1:1 tracking is incomparably better for immersion than flying a monitor in a room .

Yep , lotsa downsides , but if you seek immersion in your sims , as opposed to a purely intellectual exercise , VR is the only way to go , and represents a true revolution in flight-simming .

I like my g1. Worth the upgrade to a g2? Im actually not that bothered about the display as the G1 is already fine for what i need. Its just so bloody uncomfortable to wear.

I guess I am a strange one or “odd one out”

I want VR, but I want my mfd 's with lcd screens and ufc button box.

At the moment happy to forgo the depth perception in favour of ease of use of peripherals and a pen/paper combo.

So little black duck here is trackIR all the way.

VR for me just isn’t quite there yet to make me move over.

I guess I am weird

@Troll has worn both the G1 and G2 IIRC. He should be able to shed some light on comfort levels for both

I have a stonking great big fan aimed square at my face when flying, about three feet away. It hums and buzzes but the difference in comfort is worth it.

Yes you are, and not because of your opinion on VR :stuck_out_tongue:

No, just the G2. Had the Rift S prior to that.

Is it because of this

This is where I am as well, actually. VR and mounted controllers, that I can find while in VR, works. Sometimes I would love to have a fully fledged physical cockpit with 3 bigscreens or projectors, but VR is so close to this that I feel it’s the best option, for me. As have been said, there are pros and cons and we are all individuals…

I actually in many ways agree with those who say it’s “not quite there yet”. It isn’t. The charms have to outweigh the limitations. But after 5 years, the charms still keep hitting me over the head like a brick. Last week I started flying the Apache. In 2D videos, the IHADDS (sp?) is presented as a blurred structure in the center of the screen. Blurred, I suppose, because in reality the projector is an inch or two from the eye and outside the focal range of both eyes. It looks pretty bad imo so I checked the box in “Special” settings to turn it off. So at this point, in 3d, only the display is presented, absent the structure around it. Out of curiosity yesterday, I unchecked the hide box. In VR, it’s not blurred. The display matches perfectly the natural limited field of view of the right eye of the VR headset. Using that thing, and figuring out how to take in information from both eyes even though just one gets the display is a whole new skill that requires VR to learn. In 2D, you just cannot understand the challenges and joys of using that system–at all. And at night with the PNVS it is a total mind-fornication for the first hour or two.

You know me @Troll, I like my CPU fast, my monitor huge and my video card fa-laming!

Hey man, it’s 2022! Monitors under 55” don’t make any sense to me … completely obsolete … especially those gimmicky “ultrawides”. Why bother when you can have a 1:1 scale real world FOV?

Then again, I might also be insane as reflected in my new profile pic.

Hi Paul:

OK; got Flying Circus working with my simpit and monitor. Now I am ready to incorporate my Quest2. Can you provide any guidance, or point me toward same, on how to do that? Please and Thank You.

Sorry Gordon,

Think you got the wrong guy! I have Flying Circus but have not done much with it lately.

@MollyMaguire. Just check the VR box in “Settings/Graphics”*. The game will restart in VR. You will need keybinds (buttons) for “VR Recenter”, medium Zoom and Full Zoom. I don’t recall exactly where they are but search around in “Keybindings”

*If it doesn’t work then you will need to install Steam and SteamVR.

I made the jump from Oculus to WMR a couple of years ago. Let us know if you have any problems after following @smokinhole’s advice… :+1:

Do you Quest2 dudes use the cable, or go natural?
