Lets be honest, if they auctioned off the ability to paint a given airframe with whatever the winner wanted (within limits of course), we’d probably be able to afford a few more squadrons of F-22’s here in the US.

A fantastic article about turning surplus Catalina’s into flying yachts

Wasn’t there a story of a Catalina traveling half the world from Australia to US via Africa with literally no spare parts?

That was a Pan Am clipper! Long Way Round book IIRC.

It’s CRIMINAL this hasn’t been made into a film. Utterly sublime tale.

Hollywoo would ruin it.

The article above on the “flying yacht” was a reminder why Life was such an institution. A good picture is much better than great words. A bikini doesn’t hurt the cause either.

There’s some truth to this… Sadly.
Get Denis Villeneuve to direct it!

Oh how the mighty have fallen! The direct descendent of the Clipper is Air Micronesia’s (now United) “Island Hopper”. I flew it dozens of times and there was none of that. There were plenty of betel nut-stained 300 pound islanders with scabies on their bare feet. We were permitted to ditch the tie. That’s about it.

You’d definitely need some indy studio that gets some money thrown their way by amazon or netflix for it to work.

Or have Tom Hanks in it. Perhaps then it would end up good.

Naw man, the Dutch Film Industry should do it

Tom Hanks was in The Terminal. He is no more trustworthy than the rest of Hollywoo!

At least there were some well-known Hollywood actors active in WW-II, like gunner Clark Gable, Major US Army Air Corps…
