Valve Index VR

This will probably be a good replacement for the rift. Waiting to see how image quality is related to other headsets…

Well…sometimes I envy USSR-era Russians for lack of choice. When you are standing in line for one kind of toilet paper (a bad one) you never need to worry about which toilet paper to buy.

I can’t comment on a price increase, but I know that through Steam you can basically get in the “pre-order line” which reserves your place, but when your headset becomes available you have the option to cancel the order. I went ahead and reserved a place in line and supposedly my headset will become available in September.

I know what you mean. I suppose one good thing about waiting a bit is that the bugs and prices will shake down a bit.

If I didn’t have the Odyssey I would go for the Rift S. If I didn’t have the Rift 1 then I would have gone Vive, which means I’d have a cheaper way to go to the Index (the headset for $500 seems ok value, the other bits pushing it to $1000 really hurt).

Meanwhile, some sim-oriented guy is now waxing lyrical about the Reverb here: https://www.reddit.com/r/WindowsMR/comments/bug03c/i_have_the_hp_reverb_pro_ask_me_anything/

I respect all of the external sources of opinion but only trust my fellow Mudspikers. Nobody here is trying to sell anything and everyone is focused at least 50% on combat sims which have much different needs than Beat Saber and Project Cars. In other words, you Mudspike Early Adopters are my heros. Get out there and BUY!

Having said that, if forced to buy now, the Rift S would be my choice hands down. 80 frames is enough for me. That’s already more than I usually enjoy on my PC. I feel that my rig is still pretty robust and there is little chance that I could run that Index at anything close to its designed potential.

I like that. Think I’ll borrow it for the epitaph on my tombstone. :slightly_smiling_face:

Cool video. I can’t tell you how refreshing it is to watch 15 minutes of video without an F bomb as every other word. :+1:

Someone put these guys in touch with Bohemia - we need Arma 4 VR…

I’ve been watching boneworks since it was first announced. I’ve said it before and I still believe it.

This is half life 3. Either as a failed version repackaged as something else.

Or else this is a tech demo showing it what is coming. I’m convinced of of it!

I still believe valve. I still believe!

So the index is out. Has anyone here tried it?

I don’t think that Index is out yet, since you can only reserve one. Some vloggers have them, but I’m waiting for a test of the production unit and comparison with the HP Reverb before committing. In that respect, the Reverb has been sold out for a while so making do with the Odyssey(+) until there is a real world test between those two.

It’s out. Friend of mine received his a week ago and he’s not a vlogger or anyone with any special connections. He was just one of the folks that jumped in line early for a reservation.

OK, good to hear Kinger. Let us know what he thinks about it if possible.

Well his opinions thus far are positive for visuals, comfort, audio, tracking and hand controllers. That being said, he has had issues in getting the unit to actually display anything on two different occasions now where he has had to utilize different ports and multiple pc reboots in order to get things working again.

Sounds like fun lol. How does DCS look? Now that we need to know!

I’ve been trying to get through this today. He says money no object, buy Index. But then he says that the Reverb has a better image. At least I think that’s what he said. I wish that @BeachAV8R could get a demo Index and compare with his Reverb.

Looks like another batch of the Index has become available. Just received my email providing an option to purchase.
