Varjo Aero VR headset

My take on the FoV is in this post.

That is a great post Troll. I can’t now go back and compare the FOV in the G2 as it died but I take your point.

I actually prefer the Valve and G2’s head strap approach over the Aero, especially for wearing glasses. I decided to get prescription inserts which greatly improved the comfort factor of the Aero for me. So that is another cost of ownership to consider. It’s not a cheap hobby.

Good that you reminded me of this post of yours. I have completely forgotten about it :+1:

Allow me to ask a question: Knowing all you know now about the Aero, would you buy it again? For the current price I mean.

Thanks!

Definitely yes.
But I haven’t tested other headsets since I got the Aero… Maybe there are other brands out there that could sway me? I’m considering the Q3 for stand alone VR.

Cool. This got me closer to…

Thank you.

For those on the edge whether to upgrade from a G2.

I find the comparison well done.

Will sleep over it tonight and take it slow. Even after the price drop, it is still a lot of cash (base stations, prescription lenses…).

I tripped on the order button and an Aero + two basestations taxed the card.
I’m breaking out a sweat looking at the bill

I said I would give an update on my request for a partial refund. I quote:

ā€œHello,

Sorry for the delay. I was trying to get a approval for you since your notification was received over 14 days after receipt, which is the period for every consumer for right to return for refund.

Unfortunately, there was no exception allowed and therefore I cannot help you with your request for price adjustment.

Sorry for not being able to help you here.ā€

Mine was 15 days. It is what it is. Worth a try. I’m really enjoying my Aero so I’ll let this lack of flexibility on their part fade into distant memory. It’s a small matter.

Hm… Yeah, it is what it is, but they were not at all flexible.

Alrighty! Good news: The headset arrived. Bad news: the base station did not :frowning:

Fooled me at first as the email said order number 12345 was shipped, and delivered But I got the email twice. Then realized there were two tracking numbers.

Hope the base station box gets here soon - I’m still hungry

Welcome to the club. When the base stations arrive you are in for a treat. Enjoy!

Well, I ended up with 3 different tracking numbers.

The first one - a package of some 4 kg - was dispatched from ā€œChinaā€ some time ago and since last week is stuck in Eindhoven in the Netherlands. No further news about that one.

The second and third ones are both for packages of around 1 kg and are arriving from ā€œHong Kongā€ hopefully this Friday.

So I may receive the two base stations before the headset which is having a great time in Eindhoven :face_with_raised_eyebrow:

Hope all goes well in the end.

I stuck in Eindhoven customs with both deliveries. Apparently after communication back and forth the customs declaration is missing and customs wont let it through as they deem it private import subjected to taxes and fees :frowning: I’ve had numerous conversations with UPS and numerous tickets with Varjo and even sent the e-mail adress where UPS wanted the customs documentation sent. Now UPS has changed deliver for the seventh time and now I’ve lost patience. I will probably cancel the order and demand full refund to my CC and then happily use my G2 until Somnium come along.

UPDATE: Apparently one cannot cancel already booked and shipped orders. Have to wait it out and hope for the best. Could be a very expensive experience this circus :frowning:

OK, it looks like I am falling into the same trap:

  • The two packages (already in Luxembourg) with a delivery date set for this Friday now say that the delivery date is not available.
  • The first package just got a delivery date for next Monday (according to the tracking, the package sits still in Eindhoven).

So for now I will just wait and see.

But…

…as I bought from a Finnish company (=therefore EU, =therefore within EU Single Market), I suppose I should just pay the VAT but no customs (!). This kind of cost should be borne (and arranged) by the vendor as it is essentially their business how to arrange their deliveries and can not be pushed on the customer, n’est-ce pas?

I mean, imagine if the package was sent from Mars. Should I then pay the related costs? (yes, I am watching Futurama all over again ).

@Troll, did your Varjo shipment have to go through customs and did you have to pay some extra cost?

Thanks :+1:

I’m in Norway, so not within EU.
Varjo charged IOR tax when I ordered, so nothing extra was added when the packages arrived in Norway.

Update on my delivery, fortunately I was home since a JetPack car turned up and delivered the two base stations. No notice whatsoever from UPS or anyone :grimacing:
New ticket with Varjo since my conversation with UPS revealed that they needed tracking number and customs documentation mailed to [email protected] in order to release from customs.
Guess I was wrong thinking a order within EU would be hassle free
Would’ve been faster for me to drive to Finland, could’ve made the trip in two days from south Sweden :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:
On a sidenote, anyone know of a ceiling mount with correct thread?
