There is much more important things to do, but this was irritating every time i walked past.
The ammo box behind the seat was cleverly disguising the battery.
But it was for cal 30 ammo and I’m pretty sure it was a british box. It was also bent so badly it barely closed and pinched my finger the other day. It shouldn’t have bothered me but the wife keeps telling me I’m “obviously artistic” with how i worry and obsess over these aesthetic things, which was kind of her to say.
So i made some mods to a yank box i had kicking around and got busy with the holesaw. Its also 5.56. Which calms me.
I also put a rubber grommet from the window seal of a komatsu pc210 in there to protect the cables.
Looks much better. Satisfied my “artistic tendencies” at least.

Military .30 cal
As used in rifles such as the Garand and Browning M1919 machine gun (which was still in service on the M113 when I was a tankie). Is basically the same as the civilian 30-06 round.
It say 1919 on the box. I never made the connection!
A .30 cal ammo can on a humvee would definitely be a bit of an anachronism (now a Jeep on the other hand…). I’m sure someone just did the math that a 7.62mm bullet is basically .308, and assumed it was the same.

So we made it to Kettering steam rally.
Took quite a while. I convinced the wife to drive my old van, with the mule in it rather than the Hilux. She did pretty well! Apart from stalling on the M1 in traffic and having a panic attack.
I had obi and the yellow dog with me, we had a completely incident free journey.
The girls looked like they just escaped a tornado.
Very grumpy wife… but stuck some gin in her and she’s recovered.
I think I’m about done with camping. We could do with a caravan. Its a pain in the absolute arse being in a tent.
