Love it! This should also let us have the entire TER (3 Mavericks) again for F-16 and A-10. I know that it wasn’t allowed, but it’s possible, so we should be able to do it in our sandbox. Servers and mission creators that want realism should be able to enforce it, but others who want to play hypotheticals should be able to do that too. Then everybody’s happy! ![]()
Imagine take off and cruise with 6 Mavs and 2 Harms ![]()
Nice HARM pod teaser right there… ![]()
You would just do a formation takeoff with the tanker, lol!
Yep
One of the many reasons for me flying the Viper is agility and speed, loading it up with that much makes it behave worse than the hog (almost) so I tend to keep my loadouts pretty light.
Casually teases GM mode.
All of the latest Viper updates showcased by Tricker:
Reduced Radar Range
SAM Mode to MRM or ACM Mode Dropped Contact
Hung Start
Dual Target Track (DTT) Mode
FCR Symbology Changes
The radar range was properly nerfed with this update all right, but that was to be expected. The small antenna dish just doesn’t allow for stellar performance. You have to be quite on top of things now because there’s not a lot of time from where you pick up fighter sized targets to actual engagement.
I noticed it handled differently too, with a full load and in CATIII (4xGBU12, 2 bags of gas and TGP). I run this config pretty often so am familiar. Had more a feeling like I was riding something, ‘hefty’, like a wallowing hippo, through the mud, without a saddle. And the speed of a cheetah.
Not tried it in any other config yet.
Seems to have more power and be less stable, in a good way. I like it!
I think it’s marginally better too but only in certain areas of flight, overall it doesn’t change much in my humble opinion. It still doesn’t turn good enough without loosing a lot of speed. It’s very hard to beat a Hornet or JF17 in a dogfight.
One thing that stands out is how much drag the pylons produce. Flying a clean Viper is quite the difference.
The inability to quickly pile up the 9 g’s and hold it without blacking out is a real pain in the ass.
Hope ED stays on top of it. I waited for 2+ years while they more or less ignored the Viper and started pumping out ww2 crap and helicopters. I guess that would have been perfectly fine if they did it once the Viper was completed.
That’s enough of me ranting…
This has always been annoying. Not sure what they’ve done about it, if anything, for any platform. Always thought you could tie the G-resistance to the profile; over time you get better at it - miss a long period of time [flying] and it decreases, etc. Just a thought.
Yeah, WWII not my bag. IL-2x seems to have this covered - I notice the IL2 dev’s don’t much go outside their walls and do helo’s and jet’s, etc, but I could be wrong.
IL2 doesn’t give the same experience as DCS though. The existing WWII content in DCS is amazing and I want it to expand (which they are doing, albeit at a glacial pace). Calling the WWII side of DCS and helicopters ‘crap’ simply doesn’t do it justice. We are at a point where there is enough WWII content that you can build some semi accurate historical missions in DCS and in regards to helicopters there’s simply no comparison, they are absolutely incredible simulators.
WWII is certainly not everyones cup of tea but it definitely has its place in DCS. I can’t go back to IL2 despite offering a more consistent historical experience. DCS aircraft are simply that much better. Flight models, visuals, sounds and now also the damage model. DCS WWII has become something very special to me over the last year. The damage model of the Mossie, while not complete, has brought yet more improvements in regards to visual damage improvements. And these improvements slowly make their way to jets and helicopters as well.
Not sure, I’ve only flown CATI yet but haven’t noticed much difference.
It’s not crap.

Yeah, building missions in DCS seems to require a lot of work from the mission maker.
I’ll take what I can get as DCS is the only game in town for me.
I wonder how the “year of the helicopter” will affect the ground Combat features & AI since that’s were attack choppers live.
Same for me. And I really hope the Viper’s development pace picks up. It’s kinda frustrating clicking through all the placeholder pages on the MFDs and DED.
Tested the Falcon and doesn’t seen that much different in BFM. For some reason though the Ace AI that I use to warm up on didn’t seem up for a fight - the Hornet and MiG-15 seemed to fly off and the JF-17 now grapes around at 200kts…so maybe some changes there.
