If I were from murricaw, I’d challenge you to autocannons at angels ten for that one. But I ain’t so I won’t XD
Posting that while most Americans are still asleep is not very “German Eagle” of you…
I have been told that the Wild Turkey was nearly selected as the United States’ national bird instead of the Bald eagle.
Could you imagine all the symbolism and ‘iconography’ and tattoos e.g.
And what it would look like instead? The mind boggles!
This is true. We learned about it in school…back when we still taught civics in schools here. Another fun fact, The US does not have an official language, but we almost did- GERMAN! Crazy, right?
Meh, I fall on the Ben Franklin side of that debate. It would have been much more unique, and Turkey’s are pretty cool birds. Much better neighbors than Eagles, and taste far better.
Yeah but who is going to watch movies with titles like:
Iron Turkey, starring Lou Gossett Jr.
The Turkey, starring Channing Tatum
etc.
Just don’t take it too seriosuly, jesus.
This made me chuckle DEEPLY
When the American Turkey of Freedom and Liberty represents a bipolar foreign policy that can bomb middle eastern countries at will and has more aircraft carriers than the rest of the world combined, everybody would watch those movies!
A rose by any other name, after all…
Fwiw i thought it was excellent. But our national eagle is either a Swan or Kes.
Kes for you people who dont know, was a national treasure.
Totally gut wrenching that movie…
Thats britain for you. In a nutshell
Wild Turkey was nearly selected as the United States’ national bird
Wild Turkey is for drinking not Flags
But what would we eat on Thanksgiving???
Beef. It’s what’s for dinner.
Did someone say, they wanted a big eagle, like MF’ing big?
How about a Harpy Eagle?
Which also happens to be the namesake of this bad boy:
That is not a DAP, rather it’s a Columbian AH-60 Arpia (Harpy). Dual GAU-19s on the wings along with rockets, AND dual GAU-19s in the cargo area. Four 50 cal gatlings, rockets, FLIR, etc, what’s not too like?
And the latest version is a glass cockpit, with a targeting array and guided missiles.
An upgrade to something similar to the 25mm Bushmaster is under study as well. And yes I would desperately love to see it as DCS module (with the UH-60 mod you can do a passable version of the earlier versions).
That’s really cool. I’ve always thought the DAP was awesome; IIRC BAS made one as part of their 160th SOAR addon pack for OFP back in the day which was how I learned about it.
Curious what the main advantage over a purpose-built attack helicopter truly is though. We used Huey gunships in Vietnam until Bell got around to inventing the AH-1 Cobra, then those got supplanted over time. I kinda figured it was budget, and the fact that the 160th already operated the Blackhawk and had logistics support and crews for it. Think the same factors make it attractive for the Columbians as well, or is there another reason?
