VR News 2023

That’s the best advice one can give anyone about VR. Buy from someone with a good return policy.

This triggered a memory of something I had read, recently.

Fortunately doesn’t affect me

Na, I don’t buy it - it’s possible to do reviews and not just impressions. I agree influencers don’t want to do them but it’s nothing to do with subjectivity around VR. The stripper doesn’t really like you my friend.

I do agree return policies are important though.

Of course they can do reviews (or should be able to), but what they offer is their subjective impressions. And as such, that’s what we get.
A review, with detailed frame time analysis from a bunch of games is way too much work.
As is through the lens footage, but I don’t miss those as they don’t really tell me anything when comparing the relatively high res VR products of today.
Instead they play around in VR and tell you what they think in a number of videos, which all bring in money to their account. And my point here is that you can’t just watch one video, if you want to get any kind of valuable info out of it.
There are negative and positive remarks all over those videos, but in the end it’s just what the influencer thinks and feels. Very little raw data.

That’s just mean! Of course she does! She likes my money too

Something I missed t’other day on the same site - seems Pico 5 is on it’s winding way…

Thanks for heads up.

Will it be possible to use it for simming?

I would think so - as some of us are using the Pico 4 for simming with good success I can’t see why the next in the series would be any worse - have to wait and see the specs, though.

Thanks. I meant the Visor

despite I like the tech behind VR, I dont want part with my plastic pancake bigscreen.

its just way more comfy for me than VR.

I don’t know as I didn’t look into it enough - it doesn’t really appeal to me, which is why the “hmmm” bit as I know it will appeal to those who use their headsets for other things than I do. So I don’t know the specs as they are not really given, other than 2.5k and 4k and I can’t remember from previous articles, which will mean I didn’t think it was worth remembering!

Talking of Pico 5, I’ve had a good look around to see if i could find out any more and one thing that struck me is just how ignorant Joe Public seems to be about the Pico 4 headset - just struggle to believe some of the garbage I read, even on “influencer” sites. A whole bunch of them sprung up in recent years and it’s hard to find any that I would trust, but when I see some of the statements they make about this headset (rather than stating opinions, which is entirely different) I shudder in despair.

Reddit is full of utter bull on Pico 4, too. Probably mostly people who don’t like to think their Quest 2 is worse in any way.

Yep, I’ve also been wondering about why Pico 4 isn’t more popular. I’m guessing the reason it doesn’t get more recognition, is simply because it’s not officially available in the US.
Which is a shame, as it’s a damn good VR set, especially when considering the price.

Does anyone know why it’s not sold in North America? That seems like a suboptimal business plan.

Edit: oh yeah forgot, it’s ByteDance, owners of TikTok. That was going to be banned over data collection in the US, although that seems to have fizzled out politically.

It is!
I wonder why? Competition…? I hope it’s not because they’re selling out stock and leaving the consumer market!

Ok, I guess Norm is an influencer of sorts too, but his technical knowledge carry some weight and I thought this was more akin to a review.
Anyway, I thought it was worth a watch.

The general train of thought seems to be that Pico 4 will now never be sold in the US, but Pico 5 will, depending on what action the US takes, if any, with the ban hammer.

According to our favorite VR flight sim guy

TLDW: …due to market forces [competition]…

I had a good look and while I do like the headset, a)I don’t like WMR and b)that price is excluding tax - so for UK add another 20% = $/£1,188.

*and I also never watch videos where the thumbail has a picture of someone looking like a right idiot with their gob wide open. In fact that usually earns them a “Do Not Recommend This Channel” option.
