Isn’t that the way of things? The high end falls apart, but the “Cheap” commercial stuff becomes good enough for everyone?
Quite out of character as he’s usually very optimistic…!
Yeah, selling to the masses is usually a much better business case.
As mentioned, the Q3 seems very capable and much better than what we had just a couple of years ago, even if it isn’t the bleeding edge.
Yeah, I was thinking the same. I’m on a Pico4, 3080 and 5800x3d. This is peak VR if you ask me. I can read all the instruments, FPS is smooth, great clarity almost edge to edge.
Could it be better, sure, it always can. Just not for the amount I’m ready to fork out.
My next upgrade will probably be gfx card, when/if 40 or 50 series can be be had for more reasonable prices.
I think his access to so many high-end headsets has spoiled him. I’m happy with my G2 and I think I going to stay in the mid-range level. This is just a thought, but I think if HP decided to stay in the VR game and drop a G3, they would still make money. I could be way off but I firmly believe there will still be a market for mid-range headsets.
I believe not everyone has or is willing to dish out over $1K for the VR experience… at least not me. As much as I love VR, I’d rather invest my PC simming money in other hardware.
I actively stopped following this guy long time ago for his toxic positiveness about everything that was (for free I suppose) thrown at him.
So not having seen the video, I would not discount a possibility he produced it for clicks.
With that off the shelf… I think HP and Varjo dropping off from the high-end market is a pitty as it will slow down this market segment.
Anyway, two years is a long time and I am looking forward to what will come.
I think high end PCVR headsets have too small of a target audience to make them truly viable in the long term. The vast majority of PC gamers won’t want to spend $1500+ on a headset that needs a top end gaming rig to get the most out of it. I have to say that my demo of the Pimax Crystal at last year’s FS Expo didn’t wow me enough to make me want to reach for my credit card. The Quest 3 is a nice upgrade in many respects. I do like the new lenses and slightly wider FOV. Also the hand controllers are much better than those of the G2. My only gripe is that MSFS doesn’t play well with it on my system.

If you haven’t left a rating for the app in the stores, doing so is the best way to show your support:
Oh dear, what happened to the guy on the thumbnail?
He’s just learned that the key to YouTube success is to show yourself reacting like a complete dip****!
His image just went dark and there is an electrical fire smell coming from his RTX 4090.
Never trust a fart.
Heads-up awaiting clarification/confirmation.
Yeah, just skip the update as long as you use a WMR Headset, it’s not like you will not get any security updates. Shitty move nonetheless
So this just made my old G2 unsellable and also disqualidied it as a fallback option in case my Aero fails.
For that last 20+ years I’ve seen MSFT do things that make me think they loathe the fact people play games on Windows PC’s. Silly of me to think that I know ![]()
I can do everything I do with a computer-like device on my I-Pad/Phone (I’d miss the full-size keyboard but that’s about it). Maybe they are just trying to save me money? Nice of them.
I still intend to run DCS in VR on Linux. I have already moved all my flatscreen gaming to Linux, without a hitch. I use Pop!_OS, because they have solved Nvidia’s problems very well. Everything works out of the box in Steam, and since I don’t play any flat screen games outside Sream, I haven’t even needed Lutris.
But the new house and the Reverb (WMR) are causing some delay in my simming plans on Linux. I hope Bigscreen Beyond will be good.
Changes and Improvements
[General]
- Starting with Build 26-xx today, Windows Insiders in the Canary and Dev Channels will see the versioning updated under Settings > System > About (and winver) to version 24H2. This denotes that Windows 11, version 24H2 will be this year’s annual feature update. As mentioned here, Windows 11 will have an annual feature update cadence that releases in the second half of the calendar year.
- Plugging in to use a Windows Mixed Reality headset will not work starting with this build. Windows Mixed Reality is no longer available to users as Windows Mixed Reality has been announced as deprecated. This includes the Mixed Reality Portal app, and Windows Mixed Reality for SteamVR and Steam VR Beta. Existing Windows Mixed Reality devices will continue to work with Steam through November 2026, if users remain on their current released version of Windows 11 (version 23H2) and do not upgrade to this year’s annual feature update for Windows 11 (version 24H2). This deprecation does not impact HoloLens.
Motherlovers. Duck. Duck duckity duck ducking DUCK. Are they at least gonna open source the stuff so some enterprising code geek can write alternate drivers for the things? Such a ducking waste of perfectly good hardware. Duck!
