VR News: HP Reverb - Second Gen headsets are on the way

Installed 1903 and no matter whether I change renderTargetScale to 1.0 or 2.0, the squares stay in the same spot. So it would appear that the bug affects the Reverb as well.

So this works!! I’m now using my much nicer O+ controllers with the Reverb.

All you have to do is go into the WMR Portal, go down to the … menu (like you said…awesome title!) → setup controllers and then select Manual Pairing (you might have to also “unpair” from the existing controllers). Press and hold the button inside the O+ battery cover until the ring lights start flashing, then hit the pair button in WMR.

I’m in business. And oddly enough (or not), the controller actually appears as the O+ in VR…for some reason I thought it would still appear as the HP controller, so it is really nice to see the O+ controller properly in VR. Awesome!

The top controller is the HP Reverb one, the bottom one is the Samsung Odyssey + one. Hard to tell from the photo, but the O+ controller is more curved, has a better weight to it, and is just overall feels better in your hand (including finger placement on the touch pad). That is why I was so happy to be able to use it with the Reverb…

IL-2 looks stunning. All the cockpit lettering is crisp and readable…

Thanks for doing that. It’s good to get the first confirmation that the bug does do something with the Reverb as well. As it’s all WMR it should (as in impact all the headsets), but it is so much better to get some actual evidence.

Yeah…hopefully they will come up with a fix. I’d imagine WMR isn’t super high on Microsoft’s priorities list…falling somewhere probably between Flight Simulator 2019 and Apple Emulator…

Big Screen is absolutely full of weirdos.

Of interest perhaps, I did try to play some 2D gaming within Virtual Desktop and it doesn’t work very well. It launches into a nice theater type virtual space, and the resolution is fine, but the performance is not good at all. I tried simple game (Axis Football) and a more complex game (The Golf Club 2019) and the screen refresh rate of the 2D “screen” is not adequate to play. Probably because it is a true stack of programs all running at one time:

WMR
Steam VR
Virtual Desktop
…and then whatever 2D app you run

But Virtual Desktop is superbly usable. I actually like it and could see staying in VR there for prolonged periods…

You are doing great work there, much appreciated!

Of course, this could be the ideal time to try out Elite Dangerous in VR @BeachAV8R? :vr:

Haha…I actually saw that in my library today and was thinking the same thing. Funny that such a popular “sim” and I haven’t played more than 10 minutes of it. I have the room to install it…so might as well!

By the way…the orange banding in those screen above is due to the refresh rate of the iPhone interacting with the Reverb refresh rate. The bands aren’t there when viewing and the color is continuous across the field of view. This time of day is awful for me trying to get pictures through the lens…my living room as way too bright and way too many light sources giving artifacts.

I’ll have to do the tutorials…but yeah…this looks awesome! :sunglasses:

That does look good. If you can’t be bothered with the full training (it’s not hard though) then some of the training missions put you out in space to putz around in different types of ships. In VR it is pretty much a perfect game.

I’m going to reinstall it now, as sort of forgot about it.

Holy smokes…the space port looks awesome. I’ll need to download a control map for my Warthog because I can’t figure out what all the buttons do. They are pre-configured, which is nice.

That’s actually really great news as I’ve been enjoying the Oculus version of virtual desktop since picking up the S. So nice to take a break from simming by checking an email or perusing mudspike without removing the HMD.
