Just out of curiosity, I tried the default “VR” settings in DCS (which I feel are too low given the horsepower of my i9/2028Ti combo), I was getting about 65fps throughout that Harrier freeflight…
I think @fearlessfrog knows a bit more about that GPU frame-time graph. Obviously it appears more stressed at the high/ultra settings than the VR default (31.3 ms vs. 19.4 ms)…but going from high/ultra to VR default gives a FPS boost from around 40 to 65. Not really worth it though in my opinion since I like the bells and whistles of the graphics at 40 and it isn’t that much more smoother at 65.
I might have mine set too high then ya’ think?
Not necessarily as if it gives you a better picture and still runs smooth you are good. I just run native res with MSAA at 2x to get rid of some jaggies while keeping the frames up in heavy asset missions or multiplayer.
I knocked it down to 100% and gained about 15FPS. In the default VR settings in DCS World I was hitting 90FPS with an average of just a few frames below that by going to 100% Steam SS, which not much appreciable drop in image quality. At the High/Ultra settings I was showing closer to 50-60 FPS by dropping to 100%. Probably worth it since I’m not seeing a lot of degradation of image quality from 152%.
WMR has had patches, updates and has evolved over time. How about you Paul?
EDIT: Don’t want that to come across as bitchy, more just meant it’s always worth another go with these things as stuff changes. Apologies.
Just put it back to ‘Auto’ @BeachAV8R, as that works fine and is very clear. I think it will just pick 100% based on your GPU anyway.
The good thing about reaching a bit higher in FPS is that if you are using the motion reprojection then you’ll get 90 fps in the headset, as 65 fps ‘real’ is plenty for it to work with when needed.
Since I got the Reverb I haven’t touch any settings, just out of the box and flying.
EDIT: The only real performance killer in DCS is MSAA, and the default VR setting putting it at x4 is like ED saying they don’t want you to have fun in VR.
He installed the US localization update…
No worries at all, and you are right. I’m at a point where I want things to just work with minimal tweaking. I never got my O+ working as well as my Rift, so I went back and I’m now very leary of spending more money on a WMR headset. It might end up that I will have to make the switch again sometime in the future if Oculus bails on PC VR, but for now I’m firmly on the Oculus side of the fence.
If we cross paths, I’ll let you give my Reverb a whirl since I usually travel with it and my 2070 equipped laptop…
I’ll take you up on that Chris!
I’ll trade you 30 minutes of sitting in an APU cooled aircraft on a mid summer Texas day…haha…
I’m in danger of forgetting what it is like to not have an APU… oh how spoiled I have become!
Summer in the Citation greenhouse…
Ah yes… I do vaguely remember that!
Now I’m hungry…
FYI more tech,
Ok, I guess don’t knock it ’til you try it applies here, but judging from the videos the users doesn’t seem to walk very naturally… It looks like they have an unnatural forward leaning position. Can’t put the finger on it, but it doesn’t look right to me.
I hope I’m wrong and that this lives up to the hype, but I’m a bit sceptical…
Seems like a lot of stuff might break on something like that.
