VSN F9F Mod release

Early Christmas from VSN. It uses FC3 A-10A pit.
Cool plane. Nice trailer.

Oh how I want a Korea MiG Alley simulator, with carrier ops…!

Wow, looks impressive.
I was just reflecting on whether I would tolerate a Simple Flight Model (SFM), but I see now that they built a custom EFM !
Sick! This used to be exceptional, with the A-4E being the only unofficial mod with an EFM. Nowadays it feels like an EFM is the new standard for unofficial DCS mods. I LOVE IT!
Will definitely try this one

Had an instructor when I first started out who flew them in Korea (Marine!). The stories he told (once he figured out our small group was going to make it through training and he loosened up - the straight deck carrier was still a thing if I recall)!.

The angled deck Essex carriers where only available from 1955 forward, according to Wikipedia ( Essex-class aircraft carrier - Wikipedia ). Not sure when the first new built angled deck carrier was built… Chat GPT states the following:
The USS Antietam was originally laid down as a straight-deck Essex-class carrier but was later converted to an angled-deck carrier as an experiment. The angled flight deck was added in 1952, making the USS Antietam the first U.S. Navy carrier with this innovative design.

Has anyone figured out how to use weapons like cannon and bombs on the bird? I read through key assignments, and there is 7 - ground attack mode, d - switch weapons, and I bound weapons release and cannon fire to the HOTAS. But it does not seem to work. Also could not find a master arm reference.

Cheers,

Self-Answer: be airborne and ground attack mode (7), weapon change (d) and weapon release will work just fine. On the ground nothing happens

I could not find the F9F or Panther in the filehorst.de link on the YouTube video, but I found the download link by Googling. I’ll spare you the effort:

On those bridges … I missed badly, but here some screens sporting the F-9F Panther:

On the way to Gaudata, the first waypoint. Not sure why I see the ghost of the plane behind me there? Is this DLSS at work?

Over the airfield, and soon into the mountains.

6 Mk82 bombs on the pylon, inbound to the target bridge.

Roll in on the bridge. No damage to the bridge, however, was recorded.

Approaching Gaudata, cutting short the return leg.

Next time I bind my nose wheel steering, promised

Cheers,

Finally, got hits on the bridge

With the angry AAA not hitting me!

Flew it for a bit yesterday. Initially the feel is plausible, also on the ground. But when dogfighting the incredible MiG-15 AI, it becomes clear that the model needs a lot more drag and stall. I could easily outrate the MiG, or even fly away, while the F9F should be terribly outclassed by the MiG-15.

Nice for ground attack though, and maybe the flight model will be improved later

That is exactly why that story is so impressive! And what I was hoping to feel. But with the current flight model, it is child’s play

I had a book on this aircraft when I was a kid. Wow, always had a soft spot for it and rarely see any models of it in a sim. I wish I could find that book. Im 5% positive its in a box with a bunch of my old stuff from 40+ years ago. LOL

I took it for a couple of rides but decided it was too much w the A-10A pit. But currently been flying against it it the MiG-15. The fights are epic and at times frustrating. It outclimbs you, out turns you and its speed is unrealistic. But its a new toy and a nice variation on Korea. Its made me “Up” my MiG game.

Thats actually a pretty good idea. Going up against it. That way you still get to enjoy from a different perspective.
