I’m hosting liberation. Smokin’ Hole/“mudspike”

Nevermind. Gave up. I’ll be back later.

Normal difficulty Greek Islands is up…not the “easy” version…

So this is apparently a limited airframe campaign in this mode. The briefing says there are 12 aircraft available. I don’t know that they regenerate like the easy mode. So I guess we need to be careful and not use the Leroy Jenkins approach… :joy::joy:

Did a couple of hours…taking a break. Need food.

I did fairly well playing in my conservative mode…as that limited airframes campaign forces you to do. I flew for almost two hours without getting shot down…taking advantage of very long range AMRAAM shots and pulling back to the protection of the fleet. Using stand-off weapons… Finally got greedy and came in too close to the next island (I think I liberated 2 islands)…and an enemy scramble got me as they came off the runway…

Sorry, I got home at 4:30am this morning and although I managed to get a few hours sleep, I hit the wall this afternoon.

I will probably be up to flying later this evening though.

The Greek Isles will suffer under tyranny forevermore with this kind of attitude…

Man…my bombs were on the way and my power just went out @smokinhole:rofl::roll_eyes::triumph:

Posting from my phone… Damn…what terrible timing…!!

I disconnected. Tried to reconnect on your server and it kept saying that it didn’t exist. That was fun. I really, REALLY wish there was a better manual for the EF-24!

That was on my end. The power went out in my neighborhood for a minute.

I just hosted a session. Usual sign on credentials - MUDSPIKE and mudspike . It is the Open World Combat V2 mission.

@smokinhole Eric, sorry, I had to take care of cooking dinner. It will be awhile before i can jump back in, but I will leave the session up and running.

Sorry guys…long day at work today. Chicago says hello. Just got home and straight to bed for me…I can’t save the Greek Isles tonight. (The Greek Isles sigh in relief…)

@PaulRix thanks for keeping it up. Sorry for all the deaths. I’ve been trying to crack the code on the EF-24. And I’ve figured it out. It’s a TERRIBLE anti-radar/SAM/AAA platform. The only thing it’s got going for it in terms of self-preservation is the ability to jam a lock and rub away very, very fast. I kept thinking that I was outrunning the missiles and I kept being proven wrong. It’s a big decoy that carries, ingeniously, a couple more decoys. THE anti-radar platform is the F-45. With nothing on the external points it can go in close undetected and, launch a couple of 88s and scurry home.

Dang…that’s why I keep getting shot down in the F/A-26B…I’ve got 18 bombs and missiles mounted and it is a huge radar reflector…

I AM the DECOY!

I’ve had decent success with the EF-24 as a SEAD/DEAD platform. My general approach is to punch off 2 decoys on divergent trajectories in decoy mode. This gives me three points to the sensor triangle, letting me hard locations on the TSD a lot quicker, I stay well outside of SAM range while this is going on. Once I have good locations, I start locking up HARM shots and getting them off the rails. I usually only take 2 jamming pods and use those on the missile warning radars so they don’t shut down whatever I have targeted. I think you can get 6 HARMs on the bird along with the 2 decoys and the 2 jammers. If there’s much left to clean up, then assuming I survive the carrier landing, the TGP and some SDB’s usually suffice. I’ll use the jammers in noise mode to get to SDB range, and punch them off.

The key for me has been making use to pay attention to my aspect to the threats to make sure the jammers are transmitting (some hard points only jam to the midline, others to about 3/5 o’clock), and make sure to be on the right band to be useful (forgetting to switch to high band when dealing with active missiles has gotten me killed more than once). Even the top attack ARM (which is shorter ranged then the HARM) has more range than any of the SAM sites, no need to be dodging missiles usually. Also with a half power noise jam on the right band, you should have a pretty decent chance of getting a SDB on the target if you can get good GPS coords with the targetting pod or TSD.

I haven’t messed with it in A2A as being a solo operator makes BVR and EWO pretty difficult to handle.

Oh we’re in trouble then!

Now I will say I haven’t tried supporting a strike package with these tactics, as I haven’t messed with the mission editor or found a scenario that has that setup.
