And those that aren’t good enough to make the grade. Well, we will just scarifice 1000 of you each day to power the Astronomican. The Emperor of man can’t let his legions of destruction get lost in the warp now can he? But they do, regularly…
I am what remains of the Song of Salvation. I am His will rendered in silent light, sent forth to guide a billion vessels home. I am what remains of the Emperor now that His body is dead and His mind is dying. It is a death that may take an eternity, but it will come. And then I will fall silent with His final thought. I stare into eternity and witness the dance of daemons. I sing forever into the endless night, adding my melody to the Great Game. I am Imperious, the Avatar of the Astronomican.
And also what gave rise to Loken’s crisis of concience isn’t it?
So I guess like Mig21 said about the Tau above, there are some individuals who are semi-good, but even Loken himself was involved in ‘steamrolling’ the Remembrancers and only felt bad about it afterwards IIRC.
I try to have a plan in place for the turn that will get everyone to their spot and in overwatch. 9 times out of 10 that’s not possible, leaving one or two squad members without enough points to get into overwatch. In general, I use my card conversions to setup my overwatch at the end of the turn and to provide spare AP for unjamming a storm bolter. I always try to pick the card that provides the most squad AP. If I can basically sprint to the objective and finish the scenario in one go, then I may convert a card right away and use all the AP on one unit to try and get a win.
As you draw new cards to replace what you’ve got, no real reason to save cards usually. Also, you can’t save cards to play during the genestealer’s turn, so again no real reason to save cards for the next turn. Either play them now or convert them.
Regular terminators are good for holding long hallways, statistically with no mods, the storm bolter will get a kill roughly 30% of the time. If you can get 5-6 spaces that the genestealer has to move down, there’s a pretty good chance for a kill. Getting into assault range is not a wise plan with a base terminator.
Special weapons like the flamer or assault cannon basically allow for shorter ranges to have a reasonable chance of killing the genestealer, or being able to kill them when they cross a hallway rather than advance down it. The flamer is a good area denial tool, or if you can manuever to expose a big group of them, to burn a whole room.
The melee weapons all provide a better odds when facing a horde of genestealers up close. I personally prefer to not do that, but some maps force you in tight. In that case having melee weapons and setting up in a guard stance can be a better option than overwatch as the combat odds will be better with something like a force sword or lighting claws.
I haven’t picked Chaos Gate yet, still working through Rogue Trader. It’s on my list though!
By and large. Most Astartes literally think themselves to be above human and a few even regard humans as possible prey. They honestly view themselves as a new species of hominid, one closer to perfection. A new step in evolution as Homo astartes.
The Salamanders are a huge exception. They acknowledge their elevated status but see it as a responsibility to protect the common folk of the Imperium despite them being but 1,000~ in an imperium of trillions.
The Farsight Enclaves and Salamanders are about the only “Good guys” in 40k.
