The price is right for sure.
Looks nice! I seem to recall another Steam WWI shooter/sim, but can’t remember the name.
Loads of fun though!
I have a free one called Sopwith. Simple but fun!
Maybe that was it. I looked through my Steam library, but it doesn’t appear to be there…must have removed it in a Steam purge.
Sopwith VR is the full name.
Well OK. It is definitely not VTOLVR version WW1. The flight physics are, and this is the only word I can come up with, cute. VTOL may look cute, but the physics are quite good, say MSFS-ish. Warplanes is more like the old Sega G-Loc. But it looks good and the gameplay is fun and…errr…cute.
How is the VR hand controller interaction?
Is it something we would enjoy in multiplayer…?
I don’t like it but it may be because I can’t find the setting for the feature I want. The default (and maybe only) way to control the stick is actual translational motion, meaning you must move your arm within a big box above your lap with the middle of the box being neutral. What I want and what is probably there to be found is the ability to grab, move my hand to rest on my right thigh and roll my wrist for X and Y. This is the only way not to be fatigued out after 10 minutes or so.*
I had it set for “Sim” but wasn’t using the rudder pedals. They are allowed but I didn’t know that at the time of testing. The sim doesn’t stall per se. It just mushes. There is an arc on the ASI. Within it, you are in mush. It’s hard or impossible to climb and the turn-rate goes gradually to nil. Above the arc you perform like “normal”. So see? the basic limitations of flight are only there to a small degree. I personally don’t think I would enjoy it with friends unless there was a gameplay element outside of combat. Say, something like Sea of Thieves in the air.
*you can also use the thumbsticks for throttle and joystick. That’s my mo in MSFS but not great for combat.
Downloading the demo, I’ll give it a try tomorrow. For free I’m more than willing to give it a shot.
Tried it this afternoon, agree with @smokinhole that the flight modeling is definitely there in spirit more than in math. It does look like you can fly with you actual physical controls, I didn’t try that.
Graphics and good, it has a nice WW1 vibe to the whole thing. If they updated the flight modeling to something that is at least in the “arcade” category, and added a control mode akin to VTOL VRs stick movements I’d get it for sure. As is, going to wait and see what they do with it.
