It’s hard to relive moments the first time, but Generations was certainly impactful that first time in the cinema!

And it led to First Contact, which is the best Star Trek movie (this should get interesting :joy:)

Well, I’m proud owner of the DVD collection of all Star Trek movies and I regret nothing.
They are all marvellous in their own special ways.

Final Frontier had a lame script, a miniscule budget which resulted in the massive army attacking the town looking pathetic, awful green screen rock climb sequence, and so little budget for effects that the end of the film was more flashing lights and sounds…
Yet at the same time the intimate scenes with Kirk, Spock, McCoy, and Sybok were excellent and more than make up the film for me.
The camping stuff, the stuff in the brig, the stuff in the officer’s lounge…peak character interactions that epitomized why people loved TOS so much.

I agree that it had some redeeming features but they were totally overshadowed by the bad IMHO. And is bottom of the heap when it comes to Star Trek… TV and movies.

I submit that 2009 and Beyond are terrific Trek movies. Definitely better than ■■■■ like Nemesis.

Finally watched it and- I liked it. Production values are stellar (pun intended) but I am not sure I understand all the iconography.

You know what’s a highly underrated film? The Motion Picture.

There are a lot of shots of the actors reacting to dioramas and early CG. But I found that made me understand what they were seeing was awesome and maybe terrifying. Not like subsequent movies where “cool guys don’t look at explosions”. And the dialogue, though not nearly as masterfully written and delivered as The Undiscovered Country, is dead-on Original Series Star Trek.

Actually, other than a couple of bridge displays, there is no CG in TMP. It’s 1979 tech, they couldn’t do more than you saw in Alien. They did a ton of miniature, cloud tank, and other practical effects that still hold up today.

The new Director’s Cut 4K edition, however, does have some CG for the new shots of V’ger. The film is so much better in this version from 2001, I highly recommend it if you liked the film at all. The 4K version has redone the 2001 CG shots to 2020’s standards and the whole thing was remastered and just shines.

In fact, I recommend the 4K editions of all 13 ST films (even STV!!) if you liked them at all and have an ultra HD BD and HDR TV.
