This could be an Australian thing. 2FA has been mandated through legislation for a whole range of industries, especially online banking. I am lucky that my bank has the option of a token because I don’t have mobile coverage.
I might try creating an account again - I’ll set up a Proton Mail account just for Discord and try with my VPN set to the UK.
Another job done. Rebuilt most of the yard and a new bikeshed with a live roof on it. I’ll get some pix of the other work tomorrow when I’m done cleaning the leftover materials and debris out.
I don’t often get the opportunity to do stuff that I Iike to do at work these days.
I had so much fun doing this work that I just have to tell someone, and I cannot brag anywhere else. So here we go:
I recently wrote a bash script (took me a full day, I am not a great programmer and I forgot a lot of things I once knew) that reduces the time for a task from four to just under two minutes.
That doesn’t sound much. But…
Previously people entered a few parameters (sometimes wrongly, which costs 5 minutes after you noticed it, as you have to delete something and then do the 4 minutes again) and afterwards test, now the script does the task without requiring input and needs around two minutes, including built-in-tests.
Basically people now only have to plug a device into a PC and run the script without any inputs.
That task has to be done at least a few hundred times, most likely a few thousand times, in the next few months.
Not really a pat on your back post but more of a, “I’d like to kick this guy’s ass” post …
Perfectly good morning heading out to my first lumber delivery to a construction site. Four lifts … one 4x4 16’, one 2x4 16’ and on top of those, two standard 4’x8’ lifts of plywood … all separated by generous 3x3 spacers for easy strapping and crane offload.
I see the “rigger” walk up to my truck talking on his radio to the crane op about what he might be having for lunch … totally ignoring me. I ignore him too and 15 mikes later he comes up to me asking what he has to take off. I tell him the four at the back and I had to talk real slow so he could understand. Long story short, he couldn’t do it complaining that the lifts were jammed against each other. He even tried to show me what was wrong but I couldn’t see it!!! I could’ve gotten those lifts off in 10 mikes and I’m not even a rigger!
I’m so used to riggers being these jovial, “Get ‘er done”, dynamic people with the tools and know how to get sh*t done with almost super human freight climbing abilities LOL! Then I had to run into this useless individual. The guy must’ve been insane … it’s the only way I can rationalize it. I hate people who hate doing their job.
