What are we hearing? (Cover songs)

The whole album is spectacular, but this cover, especially knowing the historical context of the song, brought tears to my eyes.

Apparently Beyonce and Paul are besties- I kinda love that.

This crossed my YouTube feed today, and I’m very happy it did.

Holy fook these guys are good. Check this one. Take special note of how the guitar sticks the landing. Awesome.

Damn that was good. Vocals took me by surprise.

Edit: Adding a second one that she performed with her brother. Both of these have quite a but of post production, because that’s the current state of music, for better or worse. But she has some original songs recorded on her channel with just the artist, instruments, a recorder, and the natural ambient sounds (birds).

As a millennial, I’m genetically inclined to love this song to begin with. But this cover is a great spin on the original.

Same. My daughter and I are working on it, she singing and me hacking on the guitar. Great song.

Very much in the style of Hendrix or SRV, this is the best instrumental cover that I’ve ever heard of Voodoo Child. Absolutely superb guitar playing. It’s so bad ass, that I can’t believe that he’s from across the pond  JK lads. Yes, I know who Jimmy Page is.

You know how you love a song and 30 years later you hear it again…

For southern rock fans, here is the Duane Betts organized tribute to his dad, Dickey Betts, joined by current and former Allman Brothers Band members from Macon, GA. I started about an hour in, but rewound to the beginning. Which worked out well, because they have a long intermission. It’s kicking ass. Gotta love it when the mayor comes on stage with an ā€œEat a Peachā€ t-shirt.

Nice. The wife isn’t a fan of bluegrass, southern rock, etc. For some reason she has a dislike bordering on ā€˜phobia’ for any music that includes a slide guitar, banjo, fiddle or harmonica… I will have to get to the bottom of that some day?

I however, like it and have added that to my StreamSquid playlist for when she ain’t around

That might have been the best version of In Memory of Elizabeth Reed that I’ve ever heard. Trucks was on fire tonight. He mellowed later in the show, but when he first came out there, he was playing with a vengeance. He definitely had all the knobs on those Super Reverbs on 11

Arguably the greatest cover song ever made in which most people have no clue it’s a cover.
