I mean, I dress up for Airsoft… It’s fun. Life is too crappy and short not to have more fun.
I like fight club, and I wish I had more time and energy to run it.
Fwiw, one of the new kids in my crew is in pretty much the same situation as you Ace, but he takes it differently. He didn’t make the cut for the service, but really likes to wear camo. Like you he’s quite sensitive about not wearing any rank or unit insignia, but he did go as far as buying nametags to go in the right place. I’m fjne with it as mil spec kit usually is pretty well adapted to my work environment ![]()
I wear combat trousers camo or otherwise as a habit but i always wear something civvy with it as well. Combats are the best work trousers
I am a bit finicky about this… Having served (volunteer) I see the use of BDU camo outside service as… pointless.
I’m not going to go as far as saying “no civilian should ever wear camo” buuuuuuuuut… I am not that far either.
No disrespect toward anyone here- just my point of view.
Having had to wear it for the whole duration, and having been told exactly WHAT to wear and when I see it as something that should be … let’s say reserved. Plus, and this is very very personal, why would you even need it?
TPO: Time Place Occasion is what I always say. Military fashion is huge here in Japan, but by that I mean things like camo pants paired with regular shirts, or camo jackets paired with regular pants and t-shirts, or CWU-36/45 over regular clothes (guilty as charged), etc.
I remember in the Eighties we as kids were quite keen to wear US gear, be it jacket, trouser, or whatever else we could trade for beer when the forces were in the woods nearby, training.
I still liked the functionality of it later on, but nowadays this is much in the past. At age 54 I don’t think it’s wise to dress myself in combat fatigues either ![]()
I am retired Canadian Forces, and current LEO. I wear a lot of cargo pants.
My feeling is that as long as you’re not trying to pass yourself off as someone who is in the job, I have no concerns.
I like casual groups for the most part. I spend a lot of time just chilling on the 4YA Aerobatic servers. Though I do enjoy some missions and such as well. I figure the better I get, the more I’ll want to do more in game.
