Unfortunately due to Lawyer problems and Probate issues I am reduced to this skateboard. It just passed it’s initial decade of life and still gets the comments to this day. Motor hand-assembled at Wixom by Mike Priest she is what remains as my tangible asset from 26 years of marriage to the wonderful woman I was married to. Her name will be painted in white lettering above the passenger door- US Flag with the bar sinister to indicate her passing. It is the least I can do since she didn’t get to get carted around in it forever by her special driver, me.
She DID however plaster it all over FB so I figure if I lose the damned thing or wreck it I’d better hope I’m going to Hell because she’ll chase me all over the place in Heaven! Especially since I was driving our Superduty in the wreck she lost her life in back in March of last year, she’d be plenty steamed. I couldn’t help that, the dumb kid who double-derped in front of us at 55+ was hopped up on drugs so we went over 5 times but I often wonder what would have happened in her majesty here.
Agreed - very sorry to hear about that tragedy in your life. Heartfelt condolences. I think it is a great tribute to stencil her name on the passenger door.
She loved that thing and every time I’m in it I think of her. Just put the Winter tires on and took me and her dog to Champoeg Park today. A good time was had by all in spite of being there in the wet. I’m kind of on the fence about stenciling, though. Since I’ve been using it and the dog as Widow bait at the local parks like this it might be kind of “inconvenient”.
JK- She certainly paid every due that could conceivably be asked and then some. If some female I’m catting about with don’t like it, well…
Not knowing her, but appreciating how much love you clearly have shown for her (and her dog!)…I think she would want you to continue to live your life.
I had to order these (the footing kit, not the crossbars) from Australia, and they JUST came in tonight. Looking forward to getting my bike rack mounted tomorrow!
Nice! I plan to get into biking in a big way as soon as all the calamity settles down. Need to keep fit when unable to operate the powered ones due to weather, health and unforeseen circumstances.
As you can see, I am traveling on an Interstate (a dual carriageway for our British friends; Bundesautobahn for @Aginor). I’ve got cruise control set to the speed limit (60 mph) and have turned on “Pilot Assist”…and I have both hands off the steering wheel to take the photo (am not steering with my knees) - the car keeps itself in the lane.
I took the liberty of renaming this thread 2021 as it wasn’t that long and nobody had made a new one…
I have sold my Skoda Yeti.
It had one of the “Dieselgate scandal” engines.
TL;DR is that Volkswagen group faked emission results for some of their diesel engines.
They offered to fix it and guaranteed that the fix would not affect the performance or wear of the car and its components. The fix, called ‘EA189’ was a simple software upgrade. I remember asking how it’s possible to change the emissions of the engine without affecting the performance, by software and why didn’t they do this in the first place? I just got a “well, they can” answer.
3 years and a couple of months after this fix my car needed service. The workshop concluded that the EGR (Exhaust Gas Recirculation) unit needed replacement. Cost: 28.000 NOK ($3300 USD).
I googled this and found that engines receiving this EA189 fix needed new EGRs at an alarming rate. VAG never admitted any correlation between the fix and the EGR problems, but they elected to replace the EGR for free, for owners of cars that had this fix as a gesture of good will… There was a limit of max 2 years after the fix.
It was over 3 years since my car was fixed, remember…
Sorry, no free EGR replacement for me. My car had been driven 29.000 km during these 3 years. That’s a mileage that is well within a normal 2 year mileage. I complained that I was being punished for not driving my car more than I had, as it stands to reason that my EGR would’ve broken down after the same mileage, irrespective of the time since the emissions fix.
But no, I was wrong. There’s no correlation between the emissions fix and the numerous EGR failures. No good will for me, even though I’ve been a Skoda owner for 18 years, buying two new cars and one used, from them.
Well, good will goes both ways.
Here’s my new car. Picked it up today.
It’s a Volvo XC40 P8 electric.
If Skoda had treated me as a valuable customer, they would’ve sold me a Skoda Enyaq. Now Volvo got my money instead and I’ll never buy a VAG produced car, ever again.
Awesome upgrade @Troll!
Keep us posted on how electric works for you in a cold climate. One thing that always is on my mind in Canada is that an ICE car uses waste heat energy that would normally be pushed out the radiator to heat the cabin - so in that regard it uses nearly no extra energy.
However, electric vehicles aren’t producing a mass of waste heat so you have to dig in to your range to power the heater.
A coworker of mine recently bought a Tesla Model 3 and he can see range diminish from the app as the car sits parked throughout the day - just from the cold it seems.
That unit in the UK is £400. Fitting and re program will be about 100-150.
That price you recieved is horrendous.
It would of been cheaper to fly me out there to fit it for you. Thats daylight robbery
Welcome to the EV club @Troll ! I would also be interested in how the range holds up for you in the winter months. I have had my Model 3 for a little over two years now and I can’t see myself buying an ICE vehicle again. Your new Volvo looks great!
