10 years ago I was driving my Highlander and hit some black ice on a corner. I wasn’t going fast at all, but when turned the wheel to navigate the turn, nothing happened. I was headed straight for a tree off the side of the road and I remember, as I straightened my posture up into the seat back, calmly thinking, “well this is what it’s like to hit a tree.” Luckily, I continued to hold the steering input and as the tires hit the shoulder, the car found some traction and pulled me over to the left. The tree scraped all the way down the right side of the car as I went off into a field. I thought to myself, “I am NOT going to get stuck in this field,” and floored it! I shot back up the shoulder and onto the road where I turned around, went home and had a beer.

Anyway, that’s when I got my Tacoma:

In 2015 Toyota replaced the leaf springs on a recall AND in the summer of 2018, they were kind enough to give me a brand new Frame, which included replacement of the the brake lines and some other parts that had to be replaced due to the frame replacement. I also had them put in some new shocks while they had it apart; that’s the only thing I paid for.

Say what you want but Toyota has cool corporate directives and very reliable cars.

So…I noticed that my XC-40 has a drive made titled “Polestar”…and I’m thinking, “What the heck can that be?” because the only “pole stars” I can think of are the girls that …well…that dance on a stage that has a pole and …how is that a driving mode?…anyway, evidently it is something completely different…who knew? :grimacing:

I so wish American spec trucks were available more easily over here. I’d kill for an f250 or a Tacoma.

@Goblin your truck is awesome

I hadn’t realized that there was such a big difference with what is available in the UK until we had lived in Brampton, CAMBS, for close to 2 years.

My wife was driving a 2005 Ford Explorer V8 that we had shipped over. We got a leak in one of the tires so took it to our local Ford dealership/garage to get it fixed. (It had pressure sensors in each wheel so we didn’t want to just use Fix-a-Flat). BTW, the Ford dealership was actually called “Harrison Ford”.

So my wife drives it in and talks to the receptionist at the service desk. We figured, “Its a Ford place…they must know all about Ford Explorers.”…they had never seen one before. Anyway, once they saw that it was indeed a Ford product–and therefore she was at the right place–they set us up.

As my wife was leaving she noticed the entire service staff had come out to take a look. I have the feeling that they gave it thorough post maintenance test drive on the A14.

Chinese VOLVO electric car brand is called Polestar…

Thanks! I like it. With the new frame and only 90k miles on it, I’m hoping to get another 10 years out of it.
Manual transmission too.

Also Volvo’s performance brand (replaced the R’s of the early-mid 2000’s I believe).

I’d looked at V60 Polestars… until I saw the pricetag…

$58k for a used 2018? Yikes! I just stick with mine and make “Vroom Vroom” sounds as I drive. :grimacing:

They’re fast.

Very, very fast.

Have I mentioned how much I like things that are fast?

Just passed a kid in traffic driving an AP2 S2000 with the top down. Holy crap, I’d almost forgotten how much I miss mine. This was Sheba:

Coolest name ever.
I named one of my exploration ships in Elite “Queen of Sheba”

If… If I got that reference right! :stuck_out_tongue:

I drive a 2011 Honda Jazz Hybrid.
Slowly the battery is getting a bit weak but overall the car is still in good shape.
Might sell it this year and buy a small electrical one, as it is our second car and I only need it to drive to work.

For everything else we use my wife’s 2016 Ford Grand C-Max.

Nice truck Goblin!

I’ve had several cars over the years. First one I bought new was a 2005 Toyota Tacoma.
Only picture I can find is my daughter’s first driving lesson.

Great truck! Many trips from South Florida to Michigan, and annoying stop & go traffic going to work. So last year, still running great and over 200K miles on it I sold it to my son and bought this.

Hoping it lasts another 15 years! Most annoying part was Toyota not offering iPlay till this years model…

A good friend of mine has a Toyota Tundra which is approaching 300k miles. That V8 is bulletproof.

I had a little Toyota mini-truck that had just shy of 200,000 miles on it when I decided it would be a good idea to park it in the back of a bread truck. After the accident the engine was still sound but the cost of fixing the body panels was well above anything the insurance was willing to pay.

I had a 2004 4Runner for 12 years. Only had 90k miles on it (because I had a 15 minute commute and tended not to use it on weekends/vacations) when I traded it in. Not because of anything more than I was tired of it after all that time and I wanted a car with bluetooth and so on.

It had CD/cassette…I was still using one of those 3.5" to cassette adapters so I could listen to my MP3 player in it.

My wife has a 2017 Highlander with the 360 cameras and AC in the seats. Very nice. Just a crappy video screen mars it (in direct sunlight it gets majorly washed out, far worse than my Honda’s).
