What we hearing? - Mudspike plays (2020)

I LOVE EDM.

That my friend is a great find. Love it.

@Elby will appreciate this. New from Billy Gibbons. The kind of song that you want to hear when you are heading home from work on a Friday afternoon, happy as hell to be out of the sweatshop for a couple of days.

And for anyone offended by this MTV rated video, I promise you that no iguanas were harmed in its making.

Nice! Not bad for 71 year old Billy! The guy can play some beautiful guitar.

This was one of my first if not THE first 8 track tape I ever bought …

zztf

I never really understood ZZ Top until I saw that Netflix special though. I think I bought the tape because it looked cool and I LOVED concert performances back in the day.

It’s funny that the drummer Frank Beard is the only one without a beard LOL!

Thanks saghen. I punched a cone last night and was approaching cruise altitude when I posted that LOL! ā€œSweet Leafā€ is exactly the kind of song that you think of when you’re getting amped up on the title’s subject matter.

Anyway, my mom used to take my sister and I grocery shopping so while I was in the store they had a 45 rpm record display and for some reason I bought Y.M.C.A. by the Village People ha ha! First record! I forget what was on the B side.

Wow Elby :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:
8 Tracks and 45s that’s quite a trip down Memory Lane  :sunglasses:

You’re welcome I guess ha ha!

A friend of mine in high school actually had a RECORDABLE 8 track tape player! Used to love going over to his place to record his albums for free except for the cost of a blank 8 track.

Check out Ken Fritz’s 1,500 pound turntable! …

https://youtu.be/4b2IOOhJmxw?t=1230

It has a built in suction system that literally sucks the record perfectly flat onto the turntable. A guy after my own heart. I’ve always been an audiophile tourist.

Not quite as old as some of my recent choices but still qualifies as an oldie.

Ooh, this is one of my specialties. I’ll find some good cheese for you later.

Also, second quickest way to start a fight between a room full of folks from both North and South Carolina is to ask who had the better version of Wagon Wheel- Old Crow Medicine Show was discovered in Boone, NC by regional legend Doc Watson so we’re happy to claim them here, while Darius Rucker is from Charleston, SC.

I have a story about that last one…

Hang on, I’m just warming up…

I like both a lot! Rucker’s is… smoother, and his voice is phenomenal. The original one from OCMS is more… quirky and… bluegrassy.
I keep both in my play lists, it depends on my mood which version I prefer.

About the songs:
Of course I know the first (who doesn’t) and I stumbled upon the second one a few years ago. I like fun songs.

I didn’t know the third until now, but I like it. Thanks for posting!

And here’s some that are just awful (I have a playlist on Spotify called "Bad Country Music- most of it stuff that I’ve heard on repeat from the frat areas of college football tailgates the last decade or so):

And this one I was stuck listening to on repeat for FOUR DAYS STRAIGHT once upon a time during a cross-country drive when my CD player died (one corporation owns pretty much all the radio stations across the middle of the country, and they learned how to simulcast their playlists across stations in the mid '00’s).:

And one more before going back to more entertaining numbers (for the love of the Flying Spaghetti Monster, WHY is Carrot Top in this??):

Although, I don’t think Craig Morgan is bro country.

These guys are though! Still a good song. :stuck_out_tongue:

I like this one for modern country.

I grew up in the studio of the country station in Charlotte in the '80’s and '90’s, so I have pretty strong opinions about the genre and the direction it’s gone in over the last couple of decades (shocking, I’m sure ).

I AM however a huge fan of what’s now being called ā€œAmericana/ Folkā€ - there’s a lot of that here in North Carolina that we’re pretty proud of.

@Navynuke99 LOL!
Honky-tonk Badonkadonk is probably one of the worst songs ever written.

As for Toby Keith: IMO he is often right between the categories ā€œcheesy but funny enough to be fineā€ and ā€œcringy trashā€. I like ā€œBeer for my Horsesā€ (with good old Willie!) and ā€œI love this barā€ for example, but many of his songs are just dire.

I don’t know the rest of the songs you posted so it is country again tonight!

@saghen thanks, I know none of those songs (or maybe heard them but don’t remember) so I will check them out!

Sometimes I am surprised by artists. So far I have not heard a single Florida Georgia Line song that I liked. Perhaps that will change tonight!
