That seems to be the general consensus from most people.
Im not sure yet whether I like the genre or not.
Iâll listen to a few songs and find out.
Here are my comments @navynuke99 and @saghen. Again, thanks for posting!
âBody like a back roadâ is a boring pop song with a catchy rhythm but thatâs it. Nobody would even call it country with different lyrics.
I would make fun of âRed Solo Cupâ but as a person who has publicly worn a six-pack of beer as a hat and sung a song about it I guess it would be a tiny bit hypocritical.
Now on to Luke Bryan:
I admit that I kinda like âCountry Girlâ, it is fast and catchy. The lyrics are very close to being too cheesy though. The artist doesnât seem to put too much emotion in there, I feel like he probably prefers to sing in another style.
âRollercoasterâ isnât that bad of a song, just⊠generic, it feels like you already know two dozen songs that are basically the same. Like the melody and lyrics were generated by a bot.
âPlay it againâ is⊠uhmm⊠another generic song. Not bad per se, but boring. And btw. the lyrics donât even make sense, in the last verse he is playing the song on his guitar and she grabs his hand to dance to it? Really?
âSorority Girlâ is yet another generic song. Not particularly bad but bland. Probably bearable as background music in Toby Keithâs bar.
Anyway. At least that Luke Bryan bro can sing.
The only Dierks Bentley song I knew so far was âWhat was I thinkingâ and I do somewhat like it.
âI hold onâ is fine. Not something Iâd put on a mix tape (lol I am so old) but I donât mind the song.
On to Craig Morgan:
âInternational Harvesterâ strikes a chord with me since I love playing Farming Simulator with my son. The song also earns some points by sounding like a proper country song. The singing reminds me a bit of Travis Tritt. Not that bad.
âRedneck Yacht Clubâ is similar, it has proper country instrumentation and good enough singing, and it conveys the right mood, but the text is a bit meh.
Ok, letâs give those Florida Georgia dudes another chanceâŠ
âCruiseâ. Nope. I couldnât listen to the whole song, just too cringy. And not sounding country enough for me. And the video screams âwe are posersâ. Loudly. No thanks.
Eric Churchâs âSpringsteenâ is too much pop for me, not enough country.
Kenny Chesney⊠I admit that 15 years ago or so I liked a few of his songs, but they didnât hold up against real country. I cannot listen to that guy anymore. Not real country to me.
But talking about real country:
Alan Jackson released a new Album (and I bought it). I like his music. Especially the faster stuff but some of the slow ones have done me a favor with the ladies back in the day, so definitely not complaining.

So, one of my superpowers (at least in my younger, more single times) is being able to read a bar and tailor my karaoke repertoire to fit the audience very, very well. I got a lot of mileage out of the catchier âStadium Countryâ anthems and pop-ier songs youâre talking about there, though several of the âbadâ songs I posted I have issues with just how creepy they come across to me, and the bigger double-standards they expose in the industry in general (see also: âGirl in a Country Songâ discussing this):

Let me find you some more of the âAmericanaâ stuff too.
Also, if youâve not watched it yet, âThis is Popâ on Netflix has an absolutely wonderful episode about modern country music (including talking about Lil Nas X- thatâs a whole other can of worms, but I LOVE his stuff!).
Didnât think we needed a cover for this song. Then I heard itâŠ

I actually was at this concert, back in the day. Rush performed two nights at the Palace and I went to both of them. The first one I went with a couple buddies. They werenât really into Rush much, but they went along. They were basically drinking and smoking weed on the way to the concert, and I was shielding my eyes from the traffic, hoping the police wouldnât see us. They didnât particuarly care about their record, as they were in their rebellious faze. To each their own, but I didnât want a record.
The second night I took a girl I knew at college. She seemed to like the music okay, but on way home, she fell asleep in the car, which signaled my luck for the evening.
The concerts were 25+ years ago and still remember those days quite vividly.
Listening to the new Alan Jackson album.
This is one of my favourite tracks.
Weirdly catchy (nice beat) and with probably one of the oddest videos ever.
And it inspired a remake from over 70 artists.
Challenge accepted.
Iâve been a big fan of The Avalanches since I first heard them back in high school- just hearing this one again reminds me SO MUCH of what that genre was like 20+ years ago.
Ahaha dafuq! That was fun, ta
Oh no, now I canât help myself but sing âShia LaBeoufâ.
My family and store clerks think Iâm crazy, Ha! I am not âŠ'Shia LaBeouf! Ha
When i see Christopher Walken, I always have to think about Half Lifeâs G-Man.
I would have never made that connection, but now that the thoughtâs in my head, Iâll probably never get rid of itâŠ
A pocket watch. And 'Nam.
A classic. Hard to believe that video is now old enough to drink here in the States.
A friend of mine was one of the dancers- she sent me a message after they filmed that saying something along the lines of, âholy crap, you wouldnât believe what I was just involved in, I pray to GOD it hits the internet!â
I think itâs kinda spectacular, honestly.
Adding to the thread, I donât know why, but I keep coming back to this one.
