My dad worked at the country station in Charlotte through most of my childhood in the mid '80’s through early '90’s - it was an interesting time to be in that place. This is all very true about country music, and that goes back past Conway Twitty. I don’t listen to much of the popular stuff these days - it’s gotten…bro-ey, to put it politely. Now, here in North Carolina we’re blessed with a really, really good folk/ bluegrass scene, and I’ll readily indulge in that, but I’ll save those for other comments here.
In the meantime, these were a couple of my karaoke regular days back at our regular spot in Virginia Beach.
Speaking of, I hope they don’t cancel it this year - lord knows it’s HUGE for Wilkesboro and Wilkes CC. However, with SXSW cancelled and now Coachella postponed, I’m wondering.
Yeah I know what you mean.
That and the seemingly more widespread weird political stuff makes me shy away from some of today’s country.
There are a few gems in there, but they are far apart. I like the old school stuff better.
Here’s another great local band out here. I used to work with the lead singer’s husband, the guitarist plays in another band with my minister’s husband, and the cellist and I have…a long story.
Shouldn’t have shown me that, wife has been trying to get me to drive back down to Charleston for a weekend. (my only objection being she wants me to drive down partly because of her work related stuff).
