Already on my ‘must add to Netflix queue’
Funny you suggest that. “Children of Time” (a fantastic sci-fi book) is about a planet of spiders and ants, but mostly spiders. The second volume in the series is about Octopuses. In both cases these animals originated on earth so they technically are not totally alien; but they are sentient. So spiders and octopuses must be the first go-to animals when it comes to the genre. The problem with Octopuses is that they need water. So a sci-fi story that includes both them and humans gets complicated quick. And “Children of Ruin” (the 2nd volume) was very much that, complicated.
I have read more than one article that cites Octopi (and other cephalopods such as cuttlefish) as evidence for the panspermia hypothesis. They contend that they are so unlike any other species that they couldn’t possibly have originally evolved on earth.
A nightmare with a recurring pattern used to haunt my teenage soul.
In my dreams, I used to stand in the stairwells. Looking down I saw my little brother. Looking up I saw him, too. Not knowing which one of them is the real one, the one I love, was absolutely terrifying.
Fast forward 30 years and a new series on Apple TV appears, reminding me about that long forgotten dream.
Jonathan Banks (Mike!) and Noomi Rapace. Genuinely scary on another level!
If you can get a hold on this, I can recommend it. Makes me think a lot about it after the telly is off.
Eh…I can give you some recommendations on material that’s actually based in reality, and covers the themes that were attempted in this one- and actually involved Dr. Shirley’s estate.
Ah! Thanks man! I really appreciate this.
So, finished Bullet Train and it’s fantastic!
A true comic book in movie form.
Truly as great as Deadpool. Loved it.
Agree. Very good show
Oh, I think you‘re the reason I checked it out to begin with, then.
Thanks mate!
RE: Dune 2.
Seeing it in the IMAX theater:
It was fantastic. I could hear the dialog. The explosions were seat rattling. Everything about it was fantastic. Now I wish I had seen Top Gun: Maverick in an IMAX theater…
I’m liking it. A bit slow out of the blocks but it has passed my “watch the first three episodes first” test. And…
Best if you don’t try to tie yourself in knots thinking about if it is a prequel, sequel or re-boot and just let it wash over yourself like any other Guy Ritchie show
Agreed about Constellation one episode in. Nice to see Mike again. I am expecting him to kill someone remorselessly at any moment.
I don’t know about Maverick, but Dune pt 2 was filmed 100% on IMAX cameras so it really benefited from seeing it that way.
Finished binging The Gentlemen.
Even though it is ‘created by’ not ‘directed by’ it is still vintage Guy Ritchie.
Cockney gangsters, twists within twists, the occaisional F up… leading to a twist, Pikey’s (sorry, I mean travelling folk), Vinnie Jones, etc.
About the only thing it is missing is a cameo by Jason Statham!
I was entertained
Agree- the first episode took me a bit to get into it- almost skipped it.
Finished Sunday night, had a blast of a time. BRILLIANT!
I absolutely loved it. Flipping brilliant tv
I’m so confused…I thought The Gentlmen was a movie?
A couple days ago I binged some movies I initially had zero interest in:
- Blade Runner 2049
- Dune
- Sicario
- Sicario 2
Sicario sequal was the only one I didn’t particularly enjoy. Dune was bizarre yet captivating.
It is on my radar.
I am cautiously optimistic. But most of the ‘beloved game’ to ‘next netflix special’ transfers (for me) have been on a sliding scale between ‘mildly disappointed → total kick in the nuts’
It is
And the just released series is also def worth watching
I would say the same about all the others… regardless of which version of Dune. But just look at the source material
