What we watching? – Mudspike at the movies

It’s funny how that works sometimes. My biggest 70’s crush was from the UK: Jenny Agutter.

Oh yes! I watched that movie many times. What’s funny is that one of my ex girlfriends had the hots for Michael York!

Wife or no wife, I WILL be watching this on opening weekend. It comes out July 2026.

I was watching The Born Losers last night on Prime and I noticed a familiar face that I was not expecting.

The tough cop in The Born Losers (1967) was the same actor, Jack Starrett, that played the tough cop 15 years later in the Stallone movie First Blood (1982). I suspect Stallone knew this when he was cast in his movie.

Considering how many times I watched The Born losers as a kid I was shocked I had never made the connection until last night.

I somehow found myself watching From the Earth to the Moon. I remember when the program was first airing, though we didn’t have HBO at the time.

I’m honestly glad I’m watching now, as it’s absolutely incredible to watch from the perspectives of the engineers. And the cast! So many rising stars here!

You might enjoy the series called “the Moon Machines”. A deep dive into the engineering behind the equipment that went to the moon and back… On utube.

I watched the live action version of “How to Train Your Dragon” on Saturday. It was better than I was expecting.

That is an awesome ‘game’. I have only just progressed from the Mercury to the Gemini capsule, but IMHO it is worth it even at full price.

I have heard that it is much better than most/all the other recent live action remakes, because it is basically a shot-for-shot recreation of the original?

I have held off though, because it one of my all time favourite movies. I think I will wait for it to come to streaming, just in case. Cinemas are too expensive and too far away for me to walk out halfway through a movie.

Wife and I went to see Jurassic World the other night. She liked it, I thought it was a waste of money. I can suspend my disbelief during a movie about, you know, Dinosaurs, but wow the writing and storytelling was bad on this one.

Started watching Masters of the Air… Episode 2 finished yesterday.

I love it.

That series was quite forgettable for me for many reasons. Notice how that series came and went and hardly anyone today still talks about it. This is no Band of Brothers classic for sure.

TBH I didn’t quite follow that discussion here- but I loved “The Pacific” contrary to a lot of other friends of mine so I wait to finish it before commenting further.

I appreciated immensely how they gave some time to the ground crew dedicated to fixing the B-17s, and the side-stories of the civilian adjacent to the Airbase.

Overall so far it feel almost too realistic.

You should check out Generation Kill then. It’s almost as good as BoB. I liked the Pacific as well, but I do not rate it as highly as BoB. Where are you watching MotA?

Generation Kill far exceeded all my expectations when I watched it.

Loved it to no end also, and especially because, I read the book of the officer that is depicted there “One Bullet Away”.

Absolutely gut-wrenching, in a good way. If that’s possible.
