I’m in the Toronto area … it had been raining hard all night last night. I thought, “it’s only rain … what could go wrong?”. Got to work this morning … the entire yard was flooded with about 10 inches of water as I watched 4" by 4" pieces of wood float by! I’d never seen anything like it! I guess the melting snow contributed as it was like 9 degrees Celsius as well. I called it a day at 6:30 am.

We’ll see how tomorrow goes as we’re already experiencing freezing conditions and a 15 to 20 mm snowfall warning overnight. :grimacing:

In NZ, the press loves to call everything “a weather bomb” as though that was a proper meteorological term suitable for anything except clear weather.

A low coming through from NW bringing rain? It’s a weather bomb! Some rain coming down as snow on the foothills in the winter? A weather bomb! Windy weather? A weather bomb!

Elmira NY to Pittsburgh tonight. They turned us onto the ILS 6 in Elmira and we had a 50 knot tailwind. It worked out but they turned the airport around after our arrival…

The big door of the PC-24 does not block the rain when it is coming sideways down the ramp…

Wow!

Glad you made it safe and sound!

You should consider putting a dashcam in that PC-24, would love to see what a landing in 40 knots gusts looks like.

Yeah I don’t envy you there mate

On a similar note where the M40 meets M42 at Coventry there is a large off camber hill that always has a few gusty crosswinds that aren’t nice, I confess to being woken up this morning from a "suddenly ended dream’ about it. I’m not looking forward to that bit tonight to be honest

Last I heard ours were under a similar maintenance regiment as the actual aircraft given that they count as actual flight hours for the pilots. Pretty positive the authorities do the same kind of EASA regulated checks on them as on the aircraft side of things.

That’s a bit worrying… Just imagine what other shortcuts are being taken that are maybe not even necessary but save money… Not too fond personally of shortcuts like this, there’s a MEL list and a DD list for a reason, write it up in the NSRE or AML and just don’t sign off the plane if any expires.

Anyway, a large part of the issue has also been companies being in love with LEAN and JIT supply chains thus they have no spare stock any more and depend on other companies to supply that. It’s nice if that works out but as we all have seen, it’s a fragile ecosystem.

The bane of my existence as transport manager for BMW mini a few years ago :sob:

Perhaps, but not the same regulatory requirements.
And it’s possible to write up a snag in the sim, that won’t affect its safety, just the learning environment. Sure, you can cancel the check ride, but if there’s a way around it and still check out those two pilots, any airline would take it.

Here in Germany we like to call JIT “using the Autobahn as storage” and that’s exactly what companies do. IMO it is insane.

I could talk for hours on this subject. It one of the things I passionately detest about modern life
